DVR Recording has no sound track (Tuner)

Set up to record a TV show. It recorded but has no sound track. I can’t find anything within Plex Server Media related to sound.

The channel does have sound when I select it in the Tuner Application (Haupage). It also has sound when select it from the TV Guide within Plex Media Server.

I don’t know if the Transcoder settings have any bearing but they are:

  • Transcoder quality: automatic
  • Transcoder temporary directory: [blank]
  • Transcoder default throttle buffer: 60
  • Background transcoding x264 preset: Slow
  • Enable HDR tone mapping: [selected]
  • Disable video stream transcoding: [not selected]
  • Use hardware acceleration when available: [selected]
  • Use hardware-accelerated video encoding: [not selected]
  • Maximum simultaneous video transcode: unlimited

The recording has the following information:

  • Video: 720p (H.264)
  • Audio: None
  • Subtitles: off

Settings for “Plex Web - Player”
Audio & Subtitles

  • Normalize Multi-channel audio
    • subtitle color: white
    • subtitle position: bottom
    • subtitle size: normal
    • burn subtitles: automatic
      Extras
  • cinema trailers : none
    Chromecast
  • force multi-channel audio support (not selected)

I’m lost. Can anyone suggest how to fix my problem?

Update (1/16)
I thought possibly the transcoding had something to do with the lack of sound during recording. I started changing settings and new problems ensued.

I had made the following changes
Disable video stream transcoding
Transcoder Quality: Prefer higher speed encoding

The result was: Playback Error, Source is Unavailable.

I changed back to
Disable video stream transcoding

and the error message changed to “Playback Error, Could Not Tune Channel.”

Put transcoder quality back to automatic and was then able to play TV.

However, can not record with audio when setting up a recording, only when I record directly. In other words, I’m bringing up the guide, selecting the channel and selecting record. Then there is sound.

But if I select a future program to record, there is no sound track at all.

I also found that once a playback error happened even when resetting the options, it became necessary to restart the media server. In other words, I get an error, put things back, and get new errors. To restore, have to “Exit” and restart the server before making another change. Is it supposed to work this way? If so, it seems odd.

Set up another recording on another channel and it also recorded without a sound track.

I found a similar problem posted. It doesn’t appear to have any solution either.
