UGH. After updating to the latest version (1.7.3.3937), hoping it would solve the corruption problem, I am back to it not recording anything full length! I even followed my previous steps above to reset the entire system and it still does not work. All recordings are cut off at a few seconds or minutes as before. Come on PLEX, throw us a bone!
I have been experiencing the same issue since the 1.7 (mkv) update although I initially removed and rebuilt everything as suggested and like you all thought it was fixed. It was improved not fixed. Plex thinks everything finished fine but mine might be anywhere from 5 minutes to 35 minutes of an hour long show. It improved after the steps above but out of every 10 recordings 3-4 are missed bc of this issue.

Jeez. Thanks for the update, @ssuess… I probably would have updated tonight, since I’ve got some media to add. I’m still tempted to update, but I’ll probably wait until Tuesday, so that I can capture one 24-hour debug-level log before the update, followed by a second 24-hour log following the update, since my recording schedule is identical on Monday and Tuesday. In any case, thanks for the heads-up, because I would have probably updated without thinking twice about it.
sseuss – ugh. Sorry to hear that!
I just popped in to report that the steps outlined above DID solve my problem. And now I"m (perhaps superstitiously) avoiding setting up any recordings EXCEPT on ios.
I"m on version 1.7.2.3878 – and I guess I"m not upgrading anytime soon.
One new thing I am now trying: I just downloaded the newest (mac) software from SiliconDust, and I notice that now my firmware has been changed from 20161117 to 20170612beta1. I will report back if this magically fixes the problem…
Maybe it is the firmware! I just scheduled a recording, and it worked! All the way through! And no part of it is corrupted! Now let’s see if the two items I have scheduled for this evening record as expected while I sleep.
+1 on @ssuess 's discovery of the HDHomeRun firmware. I just discovered mine had an update, too. We’ll see what happens after a day or two.

I experienced this issue when i upgraded to 1.7.1. I did solve it but I wasn’t thinking it was plex scheduler related. I simply reinstalled my os after doing many hardware related steps. The os install did the trick. To be clear after the os install all I did for plex was load 1.7.2 and then just after repoint the data location to the plex data location of my original server setup. My suspicion was something in my server install was creating the issue. The os install was old and has had a far amount if stuff loaded over time for various things it has done for me.
I may have another piece of the puzzle solved, or at least something to try that may help. I was noticing that it always seemed like shows would fail after I had been away and not accessing the the Mac Mini for a while. So I changed the sleep settings to never let the hard drive spin down and so far I have had one show complete after not touching the machine in any way for 2 hours. This is strange to me since before all recordings were recording the full time, but I will watch it for 24 hours and report back if this fixes it for me. Also, with the latest silicondust firmware we seem to have solved the corruption problem at least.
Another +1 on the HDHR firmware update. I will proceed with capturing debug logs on Monday, followed by a PMS update from 1.7.2.3878
to 1.7.3.3937
and another day of debug logs for Tuesday. Assuming there are no issues after the upgrade, I’ll be inclined to say that you’ve identified all the moving parts and that the HDHR firmware update does resolve it. In any case, something did change in Plex, because the pre-1.7.x releases had no issues with the older HDHR firmware.
I’ve been seeing the same issue. Most of the aborted recordings have been exactly 6 min and 6 sec (6:06 min) in duration.
I had forgotten that when I started using Plex DVR it was setup with an HDHomeRun Prim that I have had for years. I don’t know what the installed firmware was but its certainly up to date. I didn’t have truncated recordings with this setup.
However, I did buy a new HDHomeRun Prime recently to run in Plex DVR with specificity and to allow the older HDHomeRun Prime to be used with a different software DVR. . I didn’t update the firmware on the newer one and it was running version 2015xxxx so I just updated it to 20170612 beta 1. Such updates aren’t targeted so I suspect all the HDHomeRun models on my network were updated. A reboot of the older HDhomeRun Prime was necessary for it to function in its software DVR so I ended up rebooting them all.
Its my hope that the Plex DVR truncated recordings were due to the switch to the newer HDHomeRun Prime with older firmware but I will have to see what happens with the scheduled recordings.
Well, I think adding the change to my energy saver settings on the Mac mini was the key. All recordings have worked since then, and all are complete and non corrupt! I am probably tempting fate with this, but here are the next things I am going to try to see if it continues to hold:
- I will schedule via the web app (previously I had been sticking to the ios app for that as suggested)
- If that works, I will try turning transcoding back on in the DVR device settings
IF those two things above both work for me (a big if I know), it would seem that this whole problem has been fixed by the combo of hdhr firmware 20170612beta1, PMS 1.7.3.3937, and tweaked sleep settings for the mini. I will report back in a few hours…
There have been 4 recordings since I’ve made the firmware update:
Orphan Black - 2min 57sec (2:57)
Dark Matter - 1hr 56sec (1:00:56)
Wynonna Earp - 1hr 1min (1:01:00)
Nobodies - 35min 58sec (35:38)
They have all recorded to completion without error including the “Orphan Black” episode which was a “Sneak Peek”.
Hopefully this will continue to work without issue.
Next up on the schedule is:
Justice League Action - 7:30 - 7:45am
Turn: Washington’s Spies - 9:00 - 11:00pm
Doctor Who - 9:00 - 10:00pm
Orphan Black - 10:00 - 11:00pm
I feel like I found the holy grail. I have now successfully recorded full length, non corrupt shows using the following:
- Mac mini running PMS 1.7.3.3937 (Mac OS Sierra 10.2.5 and with energy saver settings see image below)
- HDHomeRun Connect with firmware version 20170612beta1
- Both the mini and the hdhr are connected to the same router via ethernet (an RT-AC68U)
- Transcoding is turned ON in DVR device settings (but works fine if OFF too)
- I can schedule shows via IOS app or via web interface, both work fine
Hope the above helps others, I am happy to finally have this working as expected.

Doesn’t the HDHR firmware update seem to be the most liable thing to have addressed your issues, given that prior to the 1.7.x round of PMS updates, you never experienced DVR failures with your old energy saver/sleep settings?
You would think, yes…but I noticed that without changing my sleep settings, it would not work, even with the new versions for some reason.
One other new note in my testing…if I change the transcoder settings to be more agressive than the defaults, there are corruption problems again. If I leave them at defaults: “automatic” and “very fast” the recordings are fine (if slightly lower quality)
OK, all the recently scheduled recordings have gone to completion without fail. It looks like the firmware update for HDHomeRun Prime has solved this truncated recording problem for me.
Because it’s been so long since anyone commented here, perhaps I’m the only one still experiencing problems. I run OS Sierra on my MacMini. I have the energy settings set to match what others have suggested. I have upgraded the HDHomeRun Connect to 20170707beta2. I have the current version of Plex. There is no rhyme nor reason to the shows that partially record. One show always records 10 mins (even though it’s an hour). One show always records 47 seconds. The shows that partially record usually air late in the evening. But CBS Sunday Morning has never recorded a full episode. Neither has Meet the Press. But other shows that air on those channels experience no problems. It’s baffling. Any one out there still experiencing this issue? Better yet, anyone know the definitive solution?
I’m still experiencing the same issue @bolingnm I wish there was a solution posted but still no one has figured out why recordings are stopping after a minute or two. I have to keep downgrading to 1.6 to have reliable recordings.
