I think the failure starts here: Its attempting to connect to localhost on port 32600 and fails, NOTHING is listening on port 32600, 32400 is listening… This is a completely new install, no odd changes made to default.
Sure wish PLEX would publish info on how to read the logs as there doesn’t appear to be tech support available. If I wasn’t paying for the plex pass I guess I’d assume there wouldn’t be support. They should at least give the paying users a fighting chance to troubleshoot the DVR recordings.
Plex Tuner Service.exe listens on port 32600; check Task Manager to see if it is running (it will be listed right around Plex Media Server.exe). If it isn’t running, stop Plex Media Server from the notification area icon and then restart it. Leave Task Manager open while doing this and see if Plex Tuner Service.exe shows up and stays in the list. If so, try a manual recording and see if it succeeds, keeping an eye on Plex Tuner Service.exe.
Its not running. I’d have thought a reboot would restart it. I found this in the tuner log: Dec 05, 2020 10:02:05.418 [8172] DEBUG - Unable to lock named mutex F8EEB26D-AB23-4061-8250-130AB5285A4A: 0x80
Then after that is looks like it shuts down that listener. I see I am not the only one having this problem. Seems to have started over the summer. -Bill
Hmmm, I had to look up “notification icon” as I found nothing in the app called that, did find announcements though. We used to call those the System Tray Icons. LOL. Thanks, Bill
Plex Tuner Service.exe not running may be a red herring anyway. I noticed it was no longer running on my Windows test server. So, I scheduled a recording for 5 PM; it started without issue. And netstat -a | find "32600" doesn’t find anything on this server either. In fact, I don’t see where the server ever attempted to connect to 127.0.0.1:32600 at all. Yet, the recording was initiated successfully.
So, I have no idea what’s going wrong with your recordings. Perhaps the tuner service is only needed for certain types of tuners (I’m using an HDHomeRun Connect 4K).
Anyway, the logs aren’t lying. Plex is trying to connect to local host on 32600 and fails if that process isn’t running, which it wasn’t. Now its running and listening on 32600, recordings are working again, for the last few hours. Till it crashes again. But I just setup this little portable app called “restartoncrash” that watches the process and will restart it. It also keeps a log file that will be created on my desktop after it crashes for the first time. Its already recorded 6 shows since i got that process to run again. Last time it worked for over 12 hours before it stopped recording. But this time I am recording every show I can just to put it thru its paces. I cannot switch to Plex if it can’t record shows reliably. There would be an uprising in my house.
I completely agree, and I saw the same in the logs you posted in the other thread as well. That’s the reason I suggested you check to ensure it was up and running to begin with. I just didn’t see the same on my system when I tested today. Perhaps it just wasn’t logged as such.
Hopefully your workaround will keep your recordings going.
Oh, I had to run it in Verbose mode to see that. Otherwise I was getting no where quickly with the logs. I guess I will shut that off now. Thanks for the reminder. -Bill
It took a bunch of tries but it finally came down and installed. Hopefully the Tuner exe will keep running now with this new build. Thanks for letting me know. -Bill
