I have numerous users that have Live TV and DVR access, but one that I recently added is recording a ton of shows…which is fine, but now all of it is showing up on Recently Added for all users, and it’s really clogging up the UI for everyone with a bunch of content that no one is interested in except the user that’s doing the recording. In searching to find some alternative to this behavior, it appears that stacking of episodes so that each episode of a particular show doesn’t show up by itself, and instead just appears standalone is already a requested feature (and frankly, it should be).
I could have sworn that there was a setting somewhere so that recordings would ONLY show up in recently added for the user that recorded the show, and those recordings would not show up in recently added for everyone else (although they could search or browse and find them if they wanted).
Am I missing something? Is there a way to deal with this?
The only solution to this would be a wholly separate “tv shows”-type library, which is only shared with this particular user.
Then you’d also have to teach the user to select “his” library as the recording target location, instead of the general library which is shared with all the other users as well.
Yeah, that’s idiotic.
And the real down side to creating a new library (which I have only done once) was that by default is was shared with all users…and it didn’t make any sense to have to go into the permissions for each user and change them.
Is there a way to keep recordings, ALL DVR recordings, from showing up in recently added at all?
Some user would like to see them, though.
You can only exclude whole libraries from the home page. i.e. this would affect all types of files in a library, not just DVR recordings.
But the problem is that other than this one user, I only have a couple of others that use DVR at all, and only sporadically…but this one user is recording multiple shows daily, so the other users still won’t see their recordings show up on recently added, because the list is dominated by this one user…they’d have to scroll multiple times.
Plex is such a great platform, but with some very annoying quirks like this. For shows where a user is recording every episode, “Up next” has this covered.
So it sounds like creating a library specifically for recorded TV is the way to go…but it just seems like such a clunky bandaid.
I am doing content filtering in libraries by setting up labels and adding those labels to individual TV shows. Under Plex Home, you can set limitations for TV shows (by not showing something on certain labels or only show certain labeled shows to a user.
I am not shure, if this is applicable to your use case. I have managed users only.
And somebody must set those labels… either set labels to everything and then delete from those shows that need to be seen or add labels manually to each show that needs to be seen/hidden.
Examples:
Once I set the rule to exclude violent shows from my Mom’s view by setting a “Non-Mom” label and set the rule to not show Non-Mom labeled shows to the managed user that was used by my Mom.
Best Practice:
I configured a smart collection of all shows that have no labels at all and those that don’t have a certain label (sorting by date added). Checking these from time to time finds new unwanted entries and gives an overview of matches/non-matches without switching users.
