DVR Scheduling Issues for ABC World News Tonight with David Muir

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2764

Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun Connect Quatro
Guide/Lineup name: Broadcast TV Columbia-Jeffrsn Cty OTA Broadcast
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: 17.1 - KMIZ - ABC

I am having an issue with getting ABC World News Tonight with David Muir to record ongoing.

The show appears in the Guide on ABC Channel 17.1 (KMIZ) at 5:30 pm. It airs every night (7 days) of the week at the same time each day.

I schedule it with record options as follows:

Record: All Episode
Airings: New Airings Only
Add to library: TV Shows

Under Advanced
Resolution: Prefer HD
Allow partial airings is checked
Minutes before start: 0
Minutes after end: 30
Limit to channel: Any
Limit to airing time: Any
Remove commercials: Use DVR Setting (note that this is not setup)
Keep: All episode
Delete episodes after playing: Never

So here are the problems:

  1. When scheduling this show to record and if I create it on any weekday, it sets up the schedule to record the show for the upcoming weekdays and Sunday. Saturday is never included. If I create it off the guide on a Saturday, then it sets up an entry to record but only on Saturday. So, to get a complete daily recording of this show, I have to create two scheduled entry.

  2. Once setup, after the Saturday show is recorded, the other entry ends up showing “No upcoming airings” and stops recording the show that airs on Sunday through Monday.

At this point, I usually delete the scheduled entries and re-add them.

This only seems to happen with this one specific show.

This issue was previously reported by another user on these forums here…

This is what the Recording Priority looks like after the show changes to No upcoming airings and I add the show back to the schedule. The same show that is scheduled to record on Saturdays continues to record every Saturday so far.

It happened again tonight. Plex failed to record tonight’s episode of ABC World News Tonight with David Muir.

I guess that I am going to have to set an external reminder for myself to always re-schedule this program on Mondays.

I have stopped removing the Series scheduled recording that shows “No upcoming airings” and this seems to have taken care of the problem for me.

To restate, as long as I leave the 3 scheduled series recordings (1. No upcoming airings, 2. Tomorrow at 5:30 pm and 3. Saturday at 5:30 pm) as pictured in my previous posts, the show records all of the time.

Edited

I can see that the EPG data we receive has two different series identifiers but both have the same series title
“ABC World News Tonight With David Muir”

One is for Mondays to Saturdays and one is for Sundays.

I will refer this to our provider

May be all it needs is that you create two separate schedules - one for the Sunday airings and one for the Mon-Sat airings

We did stop matching with theTVDB earlier this year - so if you do not have previously tvdb matched shows in the library and have a DVR recordings separate library (one for shows one for movies) then I expect the EPG metadata to be preserved and would remain as two separate series - one for sundays and one for monday to saturday

OK i can see the issue now. Sorry. I am going to edit my earlier response and will refer it to our provider

There are two series but they both have the same title !

I am referring this to our provider.

I have referred it to our provider requesting the different series have different titles

There are actually 3 different series, one for Monday-Friday, one for Saturdays and one for Sundays. The alternative option is for them to be combined

Thanks for looking into this and getting back to me. I was away on vacation and I’m just now getting up to speed on my posts.

Is there anything I need to do or should do? How should I proceed?

The last I heard is that our provider has reached out to the network to get more details about the series

Until this gets sorted, please schedule the monday-friday separately from the saturday ones and separately from the sunday ones - so if you want all, you will need 3 separate scheduled series for - unfortunately the same series name (but actually different)

I can and will do that.

As of right now, the guide on the Plex server where I live (Jefferson City, Missouri) does not show any airing for Saturday night. When I browse the Guide to Saturday at 5:30 pm Central Time, it only shows “To be announced”. When I continue on to Sunday at 5:30 pm, there is a listing.

I also have two Plex servers in New York and they both show the program for Saturday night.

could you give me some channel numbers/names please and lineup name

I see several ABC affiliate channels on the New York OTA lineup. I can try them all but would speed up things if i knew which to check

found it - thanks

I have raised a separate issue with our provider for the TBAs for Saturdays and Sundays

As of now, this appears to be resolved. I have only one entry listed in scheduled DVR Recordings for this program. The DVR Schedule looks like it is set to record this program every night for the next 14 days. Thanks!

I will double check it again tomorrow afternoon to see if Saturday’s scheduled recording drops off or not.

Thanks for the feedback. I can see that all are now with the same series ID. The 13th to the 19th airings all have the date as the title. Will need to wait to see if the week after gets updated in time.

All is still good with this program series. It is continues to record as expected.

Thanks for your help!

I’m sorry to hijack this thread but I 'm having problems scheduling the same recording in the Dallas area. I set it up to record “new” recordings but it includes the 5:30p and in my area there is a repeat at 2:30am the next day. I don’t want dual recordings. Any help is appreciated.

I can look into it if you give me

  • Lineup/guide name (appears on top of DVR Settings)
  • channel number
  • channel name
  • airing date
The series i presume is “ABC World News Tonight with David Muir”

• DVR—Broadcast TV Dallas-Ft. Worth OTA Broadcast

• 8.1

• ABC

• 7.27.2020 5:30p and the same is repeated on 7.28.2020 at 2:30am

Yes…ABC World News Tonight with David Muir
