DVR schedule shows "No upcoming airings" yet episodes appear in guide

PMS Version 1.19.1.2589 running on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS

One of my recordings has “No upcoming airings” in the recording priority list but the show does appear in the guide.

I looked at all similar topics related to non-recorded episodes but none of them fully correspond to what I am seeing.

The problem goes away temporarily if I remove and re-schedule the recording. However, the problem re-appears after some time or when I schedule other shows on different channels.

Here are some log file entries that seem related to this problem:

Another interesting fact is that there are many episodes of that show every day but only one airing time appears. I only want the 11:58AM episode. The “Limit To Airing Time” seems to be off by 1 hour and the many other airing times to not appear for that show:

image

The guide entry shows 11:58AM:

Selecting 12:58 from the “Limit To Airing Time” does schedule the recordings at 11:58. However, the scheduled recordings eventually stop after a few days.

I am trying to understand if there is something wrong with the EPG data or if I am dealing with a configuration issue on my side.

Is this a scheduled recording that was created some time ago ? If some identifiers change - it may become necessary to delete the schedule and recreate it

If it is a new schedule, provide the full logs zip and screenshot and indication as to which airing is not showing in the recording priority

Secondly are these recordings always setup by limiting to specific airing time? if yes then the question, does it also happen when not limiting to specific time?

The time being out has already been referred to our development team

Thank you sa2000 for your reply. Here is the information requested:

This recording schedule for “TVA Nouvelles” was created yesterday. When created, all 11:58AM airings were correctly detected and shown in the table. However, all scheduled airings are gone this morning. Logs are attached.
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-04-07_08-37-49.zip (3.7 MB)

See the “TVA Nouvelles” in the screenshots below with no upcoming airings. This is usually broadcast from Mon-Fri at 11:58AM.

Here is today’s episode in the guide but notice the “Record” is not enabled:

Secondly are these recordings always setup by limiting to specific airing time? if yes then the question, does it also happen when not limiting to specific time?

Yes, the recordings are always set-up with the “Limit to Airing Time” set to 11:58AM. Once I get the “No upcoming airings” in the Recording Priority section, modifying the “Limit to Airing Time” to “Any” does not help. I will create a new schedule without limiting the time and see if it makes a different. I will reply the results tomorrow.

The PMS server is running in the Eastern Daylight Timezone

I created a recording without limiting the time. This recording is correctly capturing all airings since the last couple of days. There are 5 airings of that show every day.

An interesting fact is that if I open the “Recording Options” for that show and look at the “Limit to Airing time” options, the only options are “ALL” (current setting) or 12:58PM. All other airing times don’t appear.

I am having the same issue here. I just added a new show to my recording schedule but I am getting a similar message.

I’m on the latest release of Plex, 1.19.1.2645, on Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS, and my server time zone and current time are correct.

In my case the show is a regular weekly show (Blue Bloods on CBS) that is airing new episodes in the current season at this time. It shows in the guide each Friday evening at the normal local time of 10pm US Eastern.

When I click on the record icon from the guide and then the advanced settings the options under recording options I see the two options for the Channel: All and the correct local channel listing. When I click the Air Time item I see: Any Time; and 11:00pm. That’s an hour later than the local guide time, but, that’s no different than other scheduled recordings that are showing otherwise correct and recording properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Finally, after working for a few days (recording all episodes without limiting airing time), the “No upcoming airings” message is back again this morning. Here are the latest logs as of this morning.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-04-11_10-50-45.zip (6.0 MB)

This has been an ongoing issue for me on and off for some time now. I have many series setup to record. For example, Blindspot, which airs on NBC was setup to be recorded. No limits to time or channel. It recorded the entire season last year without any issues. The show has now started up again for it’s final season and the first episode aired on May 7, 2020 but was not recorded. So I have missed that episode and it will not be rebroadcast by NBC and I have no way to watch the missed episode for free.

When I check DVR scheduled, this program shows “no upcoming airings”. Yet, when I search the guide there is an upcoming airing on Thursday, May 14, 2020.

From the guide, I went to the upcoming episode and I clicked on Record, All Episodes and it now shows up as a “new program” to be recorded with the same show icon, title, etc. There are now two entries for “Blindspot” in the list of scheduled recordings. One that shows “No Upcoming Airings” and the new one that shows the next show time.

I can only suspect that something about the series information in the guide has changed and the previously scheduled item has become obsolete.

It is very frustrating to have to “police” the PLEX DVR Schedule to make sure that my programs are scheduled to record.

Check the backup directory, if your databases hasn’t been creating backups then it has some corruption that needs to be repaired.

Also, if this scheduled recording existed from before the EPG provider change, it’s possible it didn’t match.

It is possible that some of the programs identifiers changed after the October 2019 maintenance (see DVR EPG Maintenance) and if this happened then the only way to fix is to delete the schedules and recreate them,

Also of course any schedules not automatically migrated after we switched EPG provider in 2019 would need to be manually recreated

Sorry I did not pick these logs up at the time.

On the 11th - the day you say there was an issue, I can see some schedule entries were dropped because a specific time was required

There are log entries like these

So would need to know when providing logs details of which series do not show as upcoming

So please let me know if this is happening still when not restricting airings for the schedule and when providing logs specify which ones are failing to show up

Also may help with the investigation if you provide a zip of the xml responses to the following requests that you can do in a browser on the server

You will need to put the server token in each of the requests replacing the xxxx

This happens every single week and only with “ABC World News Tonight with David Muir”. Additionally, when I go to Monday’s schedule and set to record every episode (and only new episodes), it does not show up for Saturdays. I have to go to Saturday in the guide, find the program and schedule it to record too. Even though the title, description and all appears to be the same. Then when we get to Sunday, the scheduled recordings change and show “No upcoming airings” again. When that happens I delete the scheduled recordings and start all over again.

Is there any data from my Plex Media Servers that I can upload to help with this issue? If so, please let me know what you need.

I am in the UK and also suffering from this problem with PMS just updated to 1.19.3.2852.

A few days ago, I set it to record upcoming episodes of ‘Chasing the Moon’ on BBC4, after episodes 1 and 2 had aired. The next episode to be shown is tonight (Ep.3). In the Guide it shows the program as ‘RECORDING SCHEDULED’. But is does NOT show up in the DVR SCHEDULE.

This evening I deleted the schedule, so that series is not set to record at all. Then in the Guide I selected the episode due to air tonight and set it to record the series again. As expected, in the Guide the program is scheduled to record. But, in DVR SCHEDULE, it is still not shown.

It is not the first time I have come across this problem, where programs showing in the Guide as scheduled to record, do not appear in the DVR SCHEDULE and my guess is that tomorrow I will find that this episode tonight has not been recorded.

So this is nothing to do with any old schedule. It’s a new series and I only set it to record a few days ago and cancelling that and creating it again today has not fixed it.

I know it’s only TV, but setting up a recording needs to be 100% reliable. Even my old VHS could get that right.

My problem seems to have been with 'New Airings Only" or “New and Repeat Airings”. Series I thought were new, in fact were repeats, so having changed the record settings to the latter, they then appeared in the ‘DVR Schedule’.

So the problem was essentially mine, but I now have the problem that it will pick up old repeats (not for this series in fact, but generally) that I may not want. It occurs to me that Plex needs to offer a finer grained control over recordings.

Also, it is currently confusing that in the Guide, a program can be clearly marked to record, but it doesn’t show in ‘DVR Schedule’ (and therefore will not record) without any indication in the Guide as to why. Could Plex again be clearer, so e.g. in the Guide it can readily be seen that a program is not scheduled to be recorded (so not ‘flagged’ in any way) or WILL be recorded and then in between those 2, something that indicates the program is part of a schedule, but this one will not be recorded, with some sort of simple notification (like mouseover) as to why?

That would all make recording scheduling clearer.

I set up a HDHomeRun today, added it to my plex and was excited to start recording. I’m having this issue too…

To be clear, there are 4 more episodes of house on before star trek starts.

I’m also having this issue. I’m going to take a deeper dive later today but figured I’d jump in on this. I completely reinstalled my Plex server twice this weekend, and reset Live TV & DVR. Both times, recording seems to be a no-go. None of the content shows up in scheduled recordings, and nothing is recording. It’s very strange.

So I tried a few things. I scheduled the news which had the NEW tag to record every episode with the same settings in place which scheduled beautifully. I also manually added a single episode of a single show from the GUIDE to the queue and that showed up on DVR SCHEDULE just right.

At this point, with these still scheduled (I don’t know if that was important to the success or not), I asked the guide to refresh. I don’t know exactly what goes through the computers logic during a guide refresh, but all my shows are now correctly scheduled. I will keep you informed if anything else happens. I am going to unschedule the news and delete my test show and hope it continues to work.

A guide refresh did the trick. I’m not sure why the guide wasn’t cooperating in the first place, but thanks for finding that simple fix!

No problem. Thanks for trying all the tough stuff before I even knew it was a problem.

would need server logs to see what happened to the scheduled recordings

So after scheduling as above - wait 5 minutes and then collect server logs and let me know what was scheduled

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

I see the issue was fixed. A refresh updates all the EPG data and checks all the scheduled airings.

DVR EPG refresh should happen automatically overnight as part of scheduled tasks, Sometimes the updated EPG data becomes available after this task completes and so a manual refresh may be needed. In the event of coming across issues with airings and schedules, try a manual EPG refresh as you have done and see if that resolves the issue
