DVR Suggestion: Transcode to new folder (and delete original) before adding to library.

Can we get a variation on the optimize feature that will tell Plex DVR to save TV shows to a temporary folder then transcode those files to the actual library folder before deleting the original? Or possibly queuing the original for deletion upon a manual approval process.

Also, for low end processors that can’t do live transcoding it would be extremely helpful to only do the transcoding after hours…

I am doing this with MCEBuddy now. However, since it is moving the file, I have to constantly update the libraries because the original file was deleted. It would be nice if you could record to a folder that Plex did not use as a library. That way it does not get confused when the file changes type and is moved.

Agreed. That is basically what I meant by “temporary folder”.

Since Plex doesn’t really offer a live view or convenient (remote friendly) interface for setting up recordings, I wonder if you could get a third party recorder like the HD HomeRun DVR (assuming that’s your tuner) and keep the show out of Plex until MCEBuddy does it’s thing?

I still hope they’ll integrate something into Plex though because MCEBuddy doesn’t run on standard NAS devices.
