I would like to create Record TV folder

I see no option when recording with PLEX DVR to send them to TEMP Recorded TV show folder then have MCEBuddy scan them remove commercials change them to mp4 file and put them back into my PLEX TV show folder which PLEX plays from.

This is all on the same PC with 6 Drives. The only weird option is to create a TV Show folder on another drive under PLEX and have MCEbuddy do its thing. The problem is PLEX will scan that folder and the TV shows would be moved to another folder.

You want the super secret postprocessing script

No, there is no documentation.

I seen that. Why can’t I click on it to direct it to a folder ?

Looks like you need to write a script and place it in that scripts directory then call that script. I’ve never tried it, however plex can mark commercials for skip and that works pretty well. I think plex can also remove them, however I wouldn’t trust it to remove them though. Sometimes the skip ads thinks there are commercials when its part of the show. But it works pretty well most of the time. Are you keeping things after recording and worried about storage? Is that why you’re wanting to remove commercials? I normally delete programs after I’ve watched them so the mark for skip works really well for me.

Probably worth your time to go to mcebuddy forums seems people have asked this there before.

Not happy with PLEX removal and already own MCEbuddy. Plus PLEX kills your hard drive space with recorded TV shows rather have them in MP4 format.

IMO Disk is cheap, and I guess I don’t archive shows just record then after watching I delete. In any case seems theres discussion over on their forums how to do it.

I also think changing formats loses quality.

My Library started back 15 years ago with WMC so it’s massive. It would take 24/7 and 5 years of viewing recorded TV Shows. Hell even back in 2009 WMC made it easy to direct to a folder of my choosing to record to BUT PLEX wow no point and click :frowning:

I still use WMC for my primary DVR lol. The ease of use is whats hard for me to fully switch.

It is intended to operate after the recording but before commercial/intro/credit detection. This makes it seamless to Plex.

If your intent is to use a different DVR but drop the final file into Plex then it would be all external.

Several projects on Github for plex postprocessing ex: PlexPostProc/PlexPostProc.sh at master · nebhead/PlexPostProc · GitHub

Should be one geared towards windows.

Yes! Windows 7 WMC was perfect! For allowing this not Sure why PLEX thinks it has to reinvent the wheel on such a simple task.

The reason I am using PLEX is because of the DVR so my family is one-stop shop for recording. PLEX doesn’t allow a feature to compress the file to MP4 to reduce drive space.

It actually has two ways, both require a deeper understanding.

Postprocessing script - totally up to you.

and in the tuner setup

CONVERT VIDEO WHILE RECORDING

[Experimental] This can save disk space and improve compatibility. Converting requires a fast CPU.

They really should say CPU with a high Single Thread Rating >2000 and one core per stream.

Are you saying it doesnt require a fast CPU by todays standard? Also, If you have it convert can it use GPU to alleviate CPU?

That was my thought since I have a monster Nvidia Quadro Pro P2200 card

Now my CPU is old i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

You can do this by creating a different library that uses your temporary folder. Then set that library so it doesn’t feed into the home page hubs. I used to have libraries called z…TEMPTV and z…TEMPMOVIES

After you process them, then you can copy them back into your main library. The only thing you really lose this way is access through the recordings list or other pages included in the DVR sub system.

I created the C:\PlexDVR folder but in DVR settings it doesn’t give me an option to direct it to there. Click on location under DVR and its only TVShow folders on each drive letter

When you created the \PlexDVR folder, you need to make it a TV library within Plex.

What does the Transcoding option do? I tried it with a TV show the other day and the file was 4x bigger than the previous episodes…

Yes I opened up Plex server I’m in the settings went to libraries and created that Library titled TV show typed in the same way it is on the C drive but under the DVR settings no way to connect to it

For recording via DVR you need 2 libraries. One of the type “TV Shows”, adn one of the type “Movies”.
Depending on how the airing is classified in the EPG (movie or tv show), you need to schedule it to be recorded in a library of the appropriate type.

The setting for which library to use is in each separate recording event. Not in a global setting.
