Looks like this is falling on deaf ears. I saw a couple of more posts that were also ignored. As such, I took the initiative to create my own xmltv compatible epg here: https://pypi.org/project/cyxmltv/
Feel free to use and contribute.
Just run the command once a day to get your EPG. To integrate with plex, start the plex dvr configuration. In step 4, just use the file that this utility created.
