DVR tuners don't finish recording .. losing shows

Hello,

For years I’ve used the old SageTV to record over the air broadcasts and used PLEX to play them back on our Rokus. This week I had an email from PLEX offering a deal on a lifetime PLEX pass so I bit thinking the DVR function would be worth paying for. I’ve been struggling with this software for a few days now and my wife is all mad since her Dateline didn’t record last night.

The issue I’m having is that after a show records it doesn’t seem to finish after a few shows have recorded. The Live TV & DVR says the tuners are still recording even though the show that was being recorded will have done for hours. The Recording Schedule shows the program has been recorded but the red circle with orange circle around it will never change over to the Play button. If I reboot the server the red circle will change to a play button but only a minute of the show is there or the show is gone entirely.

Kind of bummed. SageTv still worked and I thought this would be an upgrade.

The time I am posting this is 8:27PM my time.

There should only be 1 thing recording but it says 3 and it seems stuck.

Also server is Windows 10.

Here is another example. I set it to record 48 hours. It is 10:32pm my time so the recording should have ended 30 minutes ago. PLEX seems to be stuck saying the tuner is still recording.

When I check the folder where recording are supposed to be saved there is a 186mb file in the .grab folder titled 48 Hours (1988) - S31E25 - The Last Ride Home that is only 2 minutes long.

Here is the Tuner Service log file if that could lead to any clues as to what is happening.

mines doing the same thing. have nine recordings stuck in limbo. if we reboot they erase.

on Version 1.12.3.4973 but this has been happening ever since dvr was put online ive had prior discussions of this with no answers same as all these threads here i have a hole discussion with dvr and epg and guide data issues. its the way they got it setup thats causing the issues.

@sixstring77 and @memanlv99 are you running at least version 1.12.3.4973 or maybe even version 1.13.0.5003?

seems like removing the tuners from plex allows them to complete then just readd the tuners pain but dk any other option restart service or service looses them

@memanlv99 - Do you get the full recordings that were frozen or just partials?

There should be a .grab folder in the folder where Plex records where it pre-stages the recordings as it transcodes them them into a single file. You might be able to find the same files in there, without having to remove the tuner and re-add.

If you have the experimental feature Convert Video While Recording set to Transcode try turning it off. See if your future recordings work correctly.

i had it off originally on version 12. installed version 13 and turned the transcode on it pegged my cpu to the max with the amount of tuners i have on the systems and there priorities etc. so turned it back off. also have more detailed info on my discussion at


the files are in code in the grab folder. removing the tuner lets the butler move them and finish them far as i can tell only tried it once though.
deleting tuner removes the files same as restarting the service or server

I’m having the same issue. How do you “remove the tuner” without deleting it?

Now it finished, just as I was typing my post.
I was taping the game last night and it just finished 12 hours later.
It must have been taking a while to encode or something.
