Hi all. I have an Xfinity cable card coming, destined for insertion into a 2650 unit, which will be connected to my Plex server (running Windows Server).
The DVR instructions don’t seem to include a non HD Home Run device. What is the right way to get the cablecard working with Plex?
The cable card tuner creates a network device in windows. supply plex the IP address of the network interface it will auto detect as a hd homerun. please see the attached screenshot for more info.
From Comcast, I have received the PowerKey PMK908 CableCARD (Technicolor branded) and placed it into in my 2650 unit. I have the version of Hauppauge driver you recommended. Lights are green on the device. Now I think I need some kind of pairing/activation software before I call Comcast to to the activation, but I cannot find the software.
I did give the Hauppauge device a static IP address in my subnet.
Running Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center addon. I ran the MCE DCA advisor, got a false fail because my video was insufficient, I did the Registry override for that.
On your Plex server Go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections. find the network connection labeled “WinTV-DCR-2650 (Model 143xxx)” and from the right click menu select Status then Details now look for “IPv4 DHCP Server” enter the listed IP address in to a web browser then click the link for “System Status” now Call Comcast and provide the agent with the Device ID and MAC Address, when the agent asks if your installing the cable card in a TiVo just say yes and move on its best to not confuse them with what you are really doing.
Here is additional info so the next person that travels this road might have some insight.
I am using a new+stupid Comcast router that was playing DHCP and port forwarding games. I forced me to renumber my entire network and use static DHCP entries for my machines, when previously I had static IPs only. Once the static DHCP addresses were set, I was then allowed to port forward 32400 to the Plex host.
My Hauppauge 2650 is set as a DHCP device, and the built-in server gave it an address.
I connected my web browser to the address of the DHCP server and was able to see the log. Thank you for that tip, I did not ever see any docs about connecting to that address anywhere. The log showed dns server errors, and Plex would not find any channels. I was able to see channel guide and streamed television in WMC.
I called Comcast XFinity, they said they would send a signal to the CableCARD. After they said it was complete, I restarted Plex and now it is downloading channels and guide. I’ll see if I get a picture soon.
I’ve been using this for a long time and it works pretty well for me using xFinity.
The problem I’ve had (and posted about with no response) is that Plex reports 3 tuners when there are really only two, which is problematic for obvious reasons.
EDIT: I take it all back, just needed to use the beta firmware referenced above.
To be clear - the Beta firmware is available on the Hauppauge web site. First, go to the product support page, then click on the “BETA” tab, then download the version 35341 beta firmware.
