DVR Won't Schedule Recordings for Certain Shows

I’ve noticed this happening randomly with different shows–I have a series set to record all episodes, which it does successfully. Then all of a sudden the recording schedule shows no airings for the show when there are new episodes appearing in the guide, and when I try to force an episode to schedule for recording, it briefly appears as if it will record and then the red dot goes away and it does not appear anywhere in the schedule. Furthermore, I’m able to watch the program live, but it will not record manually or automatically.

Today this happened with Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, the episode titled “Where’s Shelly” that aired tonight (December 18) at 9PM ET on A&E. No issues watching it live, but it was not scheduled to record as part of my “All Episodes” recording for the series, and all manual attempts to schedule the individual episode to record (I tried this on desktop, Apple TV, and iOS btw) resulted in no error message but nothing actually showing up in the schedule.

I have the latest version of the Plex Server, latest firmware on my HDHomeRun. This is obnoxious and a major issue as you can imagine.

I see lots of people in the forums that have had similar situations, but no solutions and not many exactly like my issue.

To be clear, nothing is failing and I’m not getting error messages–I click “Record” and the red dot comes up on the guide and then immediately goes away and it never appears in the recording schedule nor does it record. Other shows I’m able to manually schedule and record normally.

Someone help please!!

What do your logs show when scheduling the recording?

You need to check your settings (including defaults) for the series. Usually when you see the red dot appear then go away it indicates the schedule was attempted but it found that this episode should NOT be recorded.

You could already have the episode for example. If in doubt, check the logs.

I don’t have much experience with logs–attaching some that might be relevant based on the time stamps.

Plex Tuner Service.2.log (3.9 KB)

Cayars, I feel you on the settings especially because this particular episode seemed to be numbered wrong in my guide data, BUT the episode number had not been previously recorded. And in any event, should that even matter if I’m trying to manually schedule one specific recording? To add even more, the last time this happened, it was a movie on TCM so no series rules there.

Go to Settings / Troubleshooting and click the Download Logs button. Attach the zip file that will be downloaded here. Neither of the logs posted would be applicable to this situation.

Thanks so much for your help. Posting!

Just getting back to reviewing old posts and noticed I had not responded to this one:

For the show Leah Remini that you posted about showed that the one episode apparently in the guide data already existed on your system:

Dec 18, 2018 22:12:05.315 [0x700007597000] DEBUG - DVR:Subscription: We found a match in the library for 'Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath - E5 - Where is Shelly?'

The logs started at 21:22 so after the 9:00 pm start time you mentioned for the show but apparently there was a second airing that the DVR Subscription process found a match for in your Library.
