Dynamic IP

Www.plexapp.com. Assuming you are Mac thn Mac downloads, 3rd link down on right.

actually running it on a Qnap 459 pro II, hence the QPKG request. I can only see the latest version (0.9.5.2) at http://www.plexapp.com/linux/linux-pms-download.php

Any ideas where I can get the old version from?

Thanks

Unfortunately I do not believe there is a prior version for Linux.

Yes, I remember now, I got it from the Qnap forums, I've now installed v 0.9.3.5_b3 qpkg from there all is well again I think, shame they are not going to include dns in newer versions, real shame

Thanks

I’m having this problem as well. I didn’t know that it was IP-related, but it seems like it. Every day my IP changes and I have to manually start/restart PMS or sign-out/sign-in to myPlex for it to pick up the new one. I would have thought that the advantage (one of them) of having myPlex would be not to use DynDNS addresses. Unfortunately, unless something is done to automatically detect and switch at every IP-change, DynDNS seems like it was a better option.

The myPlex feature is designed to automatically notify the myPlex servers when a change in your external/WAN IP address is detected. There are two caveats here right now, though:

  1. Your router has to make the external/WAN IP available so that that Plex Media Server can see it and know it’s changed.

  2. If you forward a port and use the “Manually specify port” option in the myPlex preferences, there’s a known issue right now with your PMS updating to the myPlex website. It should be corrected in a future release. This shouldn’t be the case if your router and network setup allow you to have a fully-automatic connection discovery without manual port forwarding.

I know the devs’ intent is certainly to try and detect external IP changes and handle them.

Thanks, yes, point 2 is the key, hope they fix that up somehow. Any tips on getting the fully-automatic option working? I have a frtizbox 7390 and can't seem to get it working, hence I manually port forward and run into the ip issue.

Thanks

Yes, my issue is with number 2 as well. I can’t get my router to automatically ‘pick up’ PMS, so I’m left with manually oppening ports.

Cheers!

I am sorry, I am as dumb as they (we) come. I have been browsing the net all night but can’t find a simple answer. This thread came close to my question, so Ill put it here even though the topic isn’t what I have to ask.

Is there any possibility to stream music/video to my ipad’s plex-app if I don’t want to keep my home computer on/online/awake? Everyone says that now it is possible to stream your media when you are on the other side of the globe, but how do I do that in case I don’t want to keep my computer on full alert? When the computer falls asleep the media server goes offline.

I am using a Windows Vista computer. Sorry for being a noob…

Yes, your Plex Media Server (PMS) needs to be accessible/active in order to stream content. If your hardware and network setup at home support "Wake on LAN" functionality, then presumably you could let the computer running the PMS go to sleep and then it would get awakened when network activity was sent to it. If you can't enable that functionality with your setup, then you'd need to leave the computer running/active in order to be able to stream from it.

It seems like setting your pc to a static ip and then specifying that ip address in your port forward seems to help. At least the machine on the network stays static and the data gets to where it needs to once it hits your DNS providers side of your network.

Any updates to this issue? Is there any way to manually adjust the polling time, so that a new dynamic IP from my ISP doesn’t take 24 hours to be detected by myPlex?

well this thread is old. BACK TO LIFE WITH YOU! oddly this is the first google result for my issue here in 2017, I set up my plex server at it was working fine remotely, and now plex web interface from a computer outside my network is saying indirect connection, my IP is dynamic and I feel this is the issue, but any insight?
