Hey guys!
myPlex worked fine yesterday but over night my IP changed (I get a new one every 24h) and the Media Server and myPlex didn’t update!
Is there any support for dynamic IPs? I used dynDNS with portforwarding in 9.3.4 but I like myPlex much better.
Some info about my hardware:
Airport Extreme
Mac Mini with Media Server
MBP with Media Server
If the PMS restarts, it should update info to the myPlex servers again. Otherwise, I believe it should auto-refresh every 24 hours or so, as I recall. This was brought up by at least one of the folks during the testing phase (they have the same “new IP every 24 hours” thing), so it’s definitely a legitimate concern. I’ll see if I can make sure this is reported.
Thanks a lot! It would be nice if the Media Server could check if the WAN IP is still up to date and publish a new one when it changes, somewhat like the dyndns daemon!
I also had this issuse and it was solved by logging out of myPlex on iphone and back in and it had updated it. Why don’t DYN-DNS accounts seem to work on iOS anymore?
You don’t have to logout, just use “reload” in the upper left corner. But in my case it really was the server, it even showed the wrong IP in the preferences.
I'm a littlbe bit confused about this information. As I though myPlex is especially for that, so no dyndns-service have to be used anymore. With dyndns my Fritzbox push new IPs to the dyndns-server as soon as it gets a new one, so I can uuse the home environment the hole day.
This is not the case with myPlex? :veryconfused:
I didn't finde anythink to the "howitworks" in the WIKI, so I searched and found this post. Is anyone ablte to explain it in more details?
- In which intervall is the IP on the myPlex server renewed?
- Can I adjust it?
- Can I see a kind of renewal log?
- What about the teimeframe between renewal of the IP from my internet provider and the renewal on the myPlex server?
Is anyone able to give some information here?

You already quoted the known information about it. Your PMS will renew with the myPlex service about every 24 hours. I'm sure the poll time would be based off of when you started the PMS up and any info like that which is logged would be in the "Plex Media Server.log" file. So far as I know, the PMS doesn't currently do any sort of "active polling" to dynamically detect any changes of your external IP.
Hi Chris,
“I **believe **it **should **auto-refresh every 24 hours”
wasn’t really a known information for me on it.
So in my case, this feature isn’t usable, with only non-adjustable 24h setup. And I think not only in my setup. So I have to go back to dyndns. Without that I will never know if there are perhaps 23 hours downtime because of an IP-renewal of my internet provider.
I really hope, that there will be an active poll mechanism or something else. Otherwise this feature is useless.
I agree… pretty much useless!
With dynDNS, you were even able to reach your media server when the computer was in sleep mode (wake up on network activity). With myplex, the server will never update your ip address when your computer is in sleep mode. That means, when you want to use plex on a travel, your mediaserver must be running all the time.
Only solution for myplex I can think of is to integrate dynDNS somehow and get the latest ip address from the router, not the media server.
+1 - I had this working for 2 days until I upgraded the plex server and was forced to use myplex, now it's useless externally as I get a new IP every day...PLEASE bring back dynamic DNS...PLEASE :)
Maybe the option to add a manual server address/url in the PMS myplex settings page could be added. it could be another field with the manual port setting. if the field contains a value this would be used in your myplex setup otherwise it would just pick up your ip as usual.
+1
same problem
+1 have the same problem - any news on this topice ?
what are your workarounds ?
+1 Fullack. The service isn’t useable by this way
Mine works just fine...what isn't working?
EDIT: This assumes you are using 0.9.3.4 and not Laika.
Numerous devs has said this is unlikely, that they will not support multiple security protocols, and as such, you will likely have to revert back to 0.9.3.4 and not use Laika...
Actually, this service is already there, simply click on "Add a new server...." in settings, then "Add a new connection...". However, as I posted above, devs have stated they are not going to support multiple security protocols, so if you want to use DynDNS you will likely have to downgrade to 0.9.3.4. That said, given their stance, i'm not entirely sure what the 'add a new server' functionality is for...maybe a dev can answer that one.
I am using the QPKG, where can I get v 0.9.3.4??
thanks
