Editing DVR recordings

I use a Synology NAS to host my PMS and an iPad Pro as the PMP. Recordings of TV shows on Plex DVR gives me a .ts file. If I want to edit my recording I then have two choices:

(1) Use Apple”s iMovie. This would be my preferred method but it will not edit .ts files. Can anyone point me to an Apple app (preferably free or cheap) that will convert .ts files to another format, say mp4, which I can then edit in iMovie?

(2) Use a third party app that would allow me to edit a .ts file directly. It would be a bonus, but not essential, if that app could also convert to another format.

Any help would be appreciated?

handbrake runs on macOS and will convert video files https://handbrake.fr

Yes, but I need it to run on IOS.

You have no actual computer to do the editing on, just your iPad?

Yes, with the introduction of the new iPad Pro I have moved away from OSX and I’m now operating completely on IOS. IOS 11 is very good and it does pretty much anything OSX can do but obviously not everything or I wouldn’t be asking this question.

There is a ffmpeg for iOS on SourceForge site if you wanted to give it a try.

I also found a command to convert ts to mp4 on Stack Overflow:
ffmpeg -i input.ts -acodec copy -vcodec copy out.mp4

I think these solutions are a little bit beyond my pagrade.

I have had some success with an app called iConv that converts the .ts file to .mov but I can’t then get iMovie to recognise it. Sigh.

First, my apologies for missing the bit about iOS.

Second, what you’re asking about isn’t a “Plex” thing but an “Apple/iOS” thing – you’d probably have much better luck posting to an Apple topic forum for suggestions on iOS software/apps

Thanks, I’m sure you are right and I’ll do as you suggest.

I thought it might have been an issue that had come up before for users of Plex DVR…
