Editions (default version)

Hi all,

liking the new feature for multiple editions (Theatrical/Extended)
However I can’t figure out a way to choose the ‘default’ version showing on the library. I currently have the Theatrical version of Fellowship of the ring and the Extended of Two towers and ROTK - which is really bugging me!

Thanks in advance

The edition name is not displayed at the library level. Currently, it is displayed only on the pre-play screen.

If you have multiple editions of the same movie, they will all be displayed at the library level (unless hidden by using Collections).

You’ll need to change the poster or displayed title of one or both.

Example: Different posters

I was already doing this, how is this anything new?

This is what I get when I search using Mac or iOS app

Yes. And if you click on +1 the “choose source” pop up does not identify which is which.

This is Plex’s first pass at supporting multiple editions. Still some kinks to work out.

Each edition is treated tracked separately in the Plex database, almost like separate movies.

Watched status, user ratings, etc are kept separately for each edition of a movie.

I already had this set up with multiple versions by just using the “split apart” function. I thought this was supposed to group editions under a single entry and give the option of what version to play when launched. I don’t see any new functionality here.

There is a pretty good discussion of Editions in this thread: Discussion of Multiple Editions.

As mentioned in the thread, adding the Edition name in the library view will happen in a future update.

It is still being rolled out to all the different clients. From Plex.tv you should see something like this when you have different editions of a movie set up

Well when I used to search all 6 versions would come up, I’m happy there is now a neater way of kind of grouping them together but just wish you could choose the default one to be top of the stack on search - I guess that is a kink still being ironed out
