Effects of "UPGRADE LIBRARY"

I have a large library of about 800 movies in PLEX. Over 100 of them were not recognized by the matching system generates movie info, cover art, etc. I cut and pasted the information manually from various sources.

PLEX is suggesting I “UPGRADE LIBRARY”. Will this destroy the information of these movies? In other words, does this process blindly try to update all movie metadata or just ones that are empty?

Thanks, Tim

With that many unmatched movies you will have a bad time migrating to the new agent/scanner. It would be best to determine why they didn’t match automatically and correct that before migrating. Otherwise yes, you will almost certainly lose your existing customizations for those items as the new scanner attempts to match them and the agent tries to find their metadata.

Usually this is down to naming and organization of the files. For reference, here are Plex’s guidelines to ensure the best possible chance of success for automatic matching:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/

If you deviate from these suggestions, you’re generally asking for trouble.

For movies I recommend you try TinyMediaManager to rename everything

This is a free version

I recently did about 6,000 movies. Nothing unmatched, no fix matched items and no manual changes to anything

Use this format

Folder format:
${title} (${year})

Movie name format
${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}
