Metadata not displaying on matched content

Server Version#:4.69.1
Player Version#:

I have added a few movies lately to Plex, and while they are matching the content fine, no meta data is showing up nor poster art. I have unmatched, rematched, fix match, switched from legacy to movie db, used the imdb title number for the title - it finds the movies no problem, it just acts like it isn’t matched when you look at them. Please help!

Switching from the new modern agent/scanner to something else like the legacy one is not supported as the code paths are not compatible. It can cause unknown problems and I suspect that could be what is happening here.

I’d suggest changing the agent back to the new one (both agent & scanner) in your library settings, saving the change. If they are set already change them and then change it back again, there is a bug where these don’t always save correctly.

Then force refresh a movie with the problem and see if it helps.

Would it not be best practise to just create a new Library with Plex Scanner and Agent? Then delete the old Library, if all works out.

I tried just this. I lost 140 of my 404 movies in the new library, they never scanned in. Also there was a 15-20% error non match rate. Not sure how to fix that, but that is not very encouraging. Not to mention all title adjustments to films appear in order that they came out versus name etc…

I have only upgraded one of my small libraries to the new meta system, the others are legacy. I’m worried about changing based on some peoples experiences.

Im betting your file naming system varies from the established standard, which is causing the error rate. Im also betting that if you look for duplicates the files that are “Missing” are in fact just labeled as an alternate copy of another movie.

If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}} as the new name format.

Understood. When I moved I had a decent amount of rework to do so I looked at it as an opportunity to get it all perfect. Now I use matching ids in my folder names so plex will never get matching wrong, even if I need to completely rebuild my server.

Not sure what is going on with that many mismatched, maybe Embedded Metadata in mp4. I use mkv for that reason, as all my client direct play that container. As 140 lost, I have found the latest PMS update will at times not scan on adding content, so I added a periodical scan every few hours till it’s fixed or force a Library scan.

It’s weird, it matched whole bunch of stuff that legacy failed too like The Chicago Bulls Championship videos etc, but failed on things like Star Wars Episode VII The Force awakens and Sing 2.

While there is probably some issues with duplicates and versions, ( it does show directors cuts of some so not the whole issue), but comparing both libraries side by side it missed lots of movies, 3 men and a baby, Alice In wonderland its an extensive miss. As a matter of fact, the New DB is listing multiple versions where the original legacy is not! So likely more of my library is actually missing .

@leisuredave does How do I find duplicate or merged content? | Plex Support show anything?

You might also want to run something like Releases · WebTools-NG/WebTools-NG · GitHub to get a list and let you compare the two

17 Duplicates in the new library, 29 in the old

Here are some example misses: (entirely omitted from my library)
C:\MOVIES\ARRIVAL\TITLE_t00.mkv
C:\MOVIES\YES_VIRGINIA\title_t00.mkv
C:\MOVIES\WARGAMES\title_t00/mkv

No Year…

Arrival (2016)

Exactly, @SE56 is correct. @leisuredave how is plex meant to know which Arrival movie you want. Just do a search over on TMDB and see how many movies come up with Arrival

The year is used as a hint to figure out which movie it might be. Plex will then try and match the Text, Arrival with the year to match the movie.

So the movies i listed were entirely omitted. No movies included or excluded are formatted with a year.

Yes, as there is no direct link, Year is a must in brackets>

Think of it as it is part of the Movie name

I get why that helps, but with only 400 movies in my library I can deal with fixing 20% mismatch. It’s the 35% that were entirely omitted that I’m more concerned about.

Re enter a couple with year and re scan and see what happens.

For me 1000 movies , recently had 3 failures, in the end it was my naming or i had to use Fix match.
