Element 4k FireTV - "New Video Player" auto enables on update?

My parents have a 55" Element 4k TV with built in Amazon Fire TV. Every time my parents’ tv automatically updates the Plex app, it always turns on the “new video player”. This is all probably fine and dandy for most, but the “new video player” gives nothing but a black screen when used on this tv and requires the need to go into the settings each time and turning the “new video player” off.

Is there anyway to keep this from happening? Each time this happens, I need to drive over there and fix it for them.
