Embedded Version?

Worked like a champ (after a reboot)!

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

Can anyone explain to me why the embedded version does transcode while the kodi version (osmc) with the plex plug-in does direct play? (both are running on a RPi3)

it’s a big problem for me because my NAS is not good enough to transcode …

in attachments, same movie with the two different OS!

Thank you for your help

Check your settings; it looks like you have the PMP set to 4Mbps maximum.

Hello!

I’ve been running the latsest PMP Embedded nightly (2.29.0.964-dbe04ebb) on my Raspberry Pi 3B+.
It works perfectly, except for one thing:
All my videos now transcode instead of using Direct Play, while they still used Direct Play when I ran PMP on my older Pi 2B, using the old stable 1.3.11 build.
Is there any reason for this, and does anyone else experience this?
I have all settings set to max bitrate on the Pi, but I still cannot select Direct Play, even manually.

If you need any logs to troubleshoot this behaviour, I would be happy to provide.

Thanks!

@ Plex developers:

I have actually found the cause of the issue: It has to do with subtitles.
If I have subtitles turned on, I cannot set quality to Original (Direct Play), but if I disable subtitles I can!
Now for the strange part:
If I disable subtitles, set quality to original, and then re-enable subtitles, it will still work! I will have direct play with subtitles enabled.

To reproduce this issue:

  • Install the latest (2.31.0.974-748a1bb1) Nightly Embedded build on a Raspberry Pi 3B+
  • Play a video file with a profile similar to the following:

  • Disable subtitles from the playback menu
  • Set quality to original
  • Re-enable subtitles

By the way:
My Plex Server is Ubuntu Server 18.04 headless, with the latest (1.15.2.793) PMS installed.
I have preferred audio language set to Japanese, preferred subtitle language to English, auto-select subtitle mode to always enabled, and SDH searches set to prefer non-heraring impaired.

If you need any additional information, don’t hesitate to ask.

Any updates on when we can expect a new production release of PMP embedded?

I switched from embedded to the windows version on my NUC and I hate it!!! (Windows not Plex)… reboots, popups, blah blah… went from nice and clean where the boss & kids could use it with out issue to now getting the calls “Dad, Plex is not working… again!!!” all because some intervention is required. Embedded I never needed a keyboard attached, now I have to keep one attached at all times because you need it to get the thing working every couple of days!!!

No there is not but I am using this build and the player engine has not changed for over a year. The UI has been tweaked and works well enough if you want to use embedded PMP.

Thanks for the update. Is “Live Tv & DVR” working/available in latest nightly?

Yes it supports LiveTV/DVR in that build.

Hi, is there somewhere particular you’d like us to post with issues with embedded version nightly’s?

Here is fine. What issue did you find?

I have really bad lip sync it’s 250ms out it’s been the same with the last 2 builds, I can adjust it with my AV amp but thought you’d like to know! It wasn’t a problem on the same Intel NUC when I had LibreELEC/KODI with Plex for Kodi addon. Also I seem to have to re-boot every couple of days or for some reason the server transcodes everything! If you’d like logs let me know which and where and I’ll happily oblige!
Cheers,
Tim

What model NUC?

Intel NUC Kit DN2820FYKH with 4GB RAM

No rebooting here on my fairly old Intel NUC. Bit the transcoding thing is an issue for me as well. The official latest version 1.3 is playing everything with direct play, even 4k movies. But 2.23 is the last version which does this. As of 2.24 till now (2.31) everything gets transcoded. I reverted back to 1.3 and try a new version booting from USB as it comes available, but so far 1.3 or 2.23 is the choice for me.

Test the last beta from PMP with my Raspberry Pi are done… it works… but really slow…

i think it wood be nice if plex add the “Pre Caching” from RasPlex…

Anyone tried whether the latest nightly will work on a RPI3B+?

Whats the latest Kernel on the last PMP build?
I need a kernel update to work on the new Intel NUCS.

A month and a half and no response! Any answers? I have now got to the point that I have to reboot every time I want to watch anything! This had made me notice that the power button is disabled by plex? Why would you disable apci shutdown? Also stops the power on the remote from working!
