Emby or Jellyfin?

Been with Plex as a PAYING customer since 2021 but longtime user way before that….So, Okay after reading this post “Plex Roku App fails to load libraries” and having almost the same issues and after having NO responding help or actually fixes from the forum or PLEX themselves (imagine that?) I have decided after dealing with my issue for DAYS and not getting it resolved, I have decided to either go with Emby or Jellyfin which, a lot of people say they are both very complicated and a pain….BUT not being able to load or watch my media AT ALL on the “new Roku Plex App….And now not being able to watch on my NEW TV ….Is even worse!!

I have a HUGE library and yes, it will take me a good month or more to manually load it on a new platform But, here’s the real question “Which one is easier to setup and install?” Emby or Jellyfin ….OR?….another platform? Thanks in advance….Plex has lost me forever as a customer and user.

I have tried both and I would say Emby by far. Jellyfin lacks polish.

Plex has the market cornered in ease of setup. Emby isn’t too far behind, especially if you’re running it on Windows or something. Jellyfin has a learning curve.

Sharing with family and friends I believe is the same effort. Plex makes it easy, Emby requires some extra steps, and Jellyfin has a learning curve. To be fair I haven’t tried sharing out Emby or Jellyfin yet. Looking at sharing Jellyfin safely appears to be no small task.

As with all things though… I think you end up taking pride in the thing you work on the most when you get it rolling. And you can’t beat free.

I have a small library, so I don’t understand, but why would it take a month (or more). All you need to do is point Emby or Jellyfin to the libraries (on your Nas?) to scan.

Anyway, you can test both on a small library to see which one you prefer, Emby or Jellyfin

I suspect he is moving his library to another machine with different storage media. Last time I copied my library from one PC to another with bigger drives took two weeks. And my library was only around 3Tb at the time.
But you’re correct, it would be better to test with a small library to start with to get a feel for preferences/fixes/etc.
