Enable audio encoding selections for HDMI surround

Many TVs can not pass through LCPM or DTS through e-arc (samsungs for instance) and users need to rely on DTS or Dolby encoding for surround sound that can’t be directly passed through. While we can select optical passthrough to allow selection or AC3 or DTS for encoding any 5.1 stream which allows HDMI based passthrough of the same, it would be beneficial to have the selection as an option for HDMI, especially if we can select higher quality audio through HDMI AC3 or DTS that optical can not provide natively.

Devices I personally would like to see this feature on: Chromecast with Google TV (4k), Fire stick 4k/4k Max.

Thank you very much

Hello, it would be very useful in the Android TV app to have a choice or force to convert most of the surround sounds, for example to AAC Stereo.
It sometimes misrecognizes the device what sounds it supports and it happens that the Plex Server does not convert/mux the audio and the movie remains with no sound.
Thanks in advance!
Greetings!

P.S.
I tried lowering the streaming quality. So the transcoder turns on, but doesn’t mix 5.1 to stereo. I can hear the surround sound, but not the speech - as if the center is missing.
Please help!

As a update, optical allows for avoidance of LPCM, and DTS for HDMI devices that don’t support them. However as much as it encodes in DD (AC3) and allows passthrough of AC3… EAC3 is not allowed and either needs re-encoding or requires switching passthrough to HDMI.
