Enable Refresh Rate Switching results in "No Signal" after updating to 10.0.19045

Server Version#: 4.110.1
Player Version#: 10.0.19045

Hi there,

I have had very few playback issues with my RTX3090 but after updating Plex HTPC on Windows 10 to 10.0.19045 I am getting a “No Signal” from my TV when I try and play HDR content with “Enable Refresh Rate Switching” set to On.

My Windows 10 always has HDR enabled and I have always used Refresh Rate Switching without any issues on HDR content.

No matter which content I try, if it is HDR I get no signal unless I disable RRS. Non-HDR content plays fine.

I have attached logs where you see HDR plays fine without RRS and then results in No Signal a couple of times after that. I can hear the sound playing through my AVR even with no signal on the TV.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Likely what is happening is it is switching to a mode that the TV advertises (or the AVR advertises) but the TV doesn’t actually support.

Since you are keeping your display in HDR to begin with, you may want to disable HDR switching (unless Windows’ poor SDR tone-mapping into HDR is just not acceptable to you). The HDR switching is most often used by those keeping their display in SDR and only switching to HDR for HDR content.

Have you recently updated your Nvidia drivers? I had this exact same problem on my HTPC (rtx3050) and it was caused by me updating the Nvidia driver. No 10Bit modes where possible with the newest driver… I reverted to an earlier version (back to 531.61) and everything worked fine again.

Thank you both @gbooker02 and @Mitzsch, your replies gave me an idea.

I do have the latest Nvidia drivers, but instead of rolling back I went into Nvidia control panel and set the settings from default to Nvidia and then forced 8-bit.

This fixed the issue.
