Enabled secure connection and now I cant reach my Plex server

Server Version#:5.1.4.2596
Player Version#: 4.120.1

I enabled secure connection in Plex and not I cannot to my Plex server via IP or app.

You’re not telling us enough – Local LAN ? Remote ?

How are you trying to access it?

My apologies this is my first time I’ve posted to the community and first time really having an issue. My NAS server with the Plex media software is connected directly to my router. I’ve always been able to access it via the Plex app or URL, but a family member was having issues connecting remotely. They reported an indirect error. I wanted to see if setting my Plex media server software to “secure” would help. As soon as I did that I completely lost connection and cannot access it via app or URL. If there is additional information that would help in resolving this please let me know and I’ll do my best to provide it.

  1. “Indirect Connection” on your NAS / PMS server means two things, especially with a QNAP
  • Remote Access (Port Forwarding isn’t working through your modem/router WAN IP → the Plex port on the QNAP. In your modem/router, you need to create a port forwarding rule from the WAN adapter to the LAN IP of your QNAP, port 32400, TCP protocol.

  • QNAP has a firewall (if you have it enabled) – You need to allow port 32400/TCP to pass through

Can you open PMS from your LAN (your computer) ?

On my router I have port forwarding on for 32400. I do not have the firewall turned on for my NAS. I cannot has the media server via my computer, but I am able to access the NAS OS without any issues.

Are you and the QNAP on the same RFC-1918 subnet ?
(192.168.x.x , 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x ) ?

Are you trying to access it by IP or name ?

(I’m asking all the questions I often overlook  )

No worries. Ask as many questions as you want. It’s the only way to get the answers. I am on the same subnet 192.168.x.x. I’m attempting to connect via the IP.

Now it’s really stupid question time… LOL

When you open http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web , what happens?
– Plex loads ?
– No web page ? (connection refused) ?

App center confirms PMS is running?

I get “This site cannot be reached”.

Ok, so this is me just being impatient with my own skills, but I reset my router. Now when I use “https://app.plex.tv” I get through without issues via my computer, but I’m still not able to get in through the IP.

https://app.plex.tv works best when it’s already claimed by you.

If your server is confused somehow, it won’t.

I’m looking at your server on Plex.tv.
I see the docker container IP addresses (10.0.5.1 / 10.0.7.1 / 10.0.3.1 ) – All good there

I see your 192.168.1.195 LAN address – also good

I also see your WAN IP – 140.x.x.x – Good there too.

What’s confusing is a 172.30.0.1 LAN address .

Which IP address should be your “Default gateway” adapter (Control Panel - Network & Virtual Switch)

Do you have a shared folder named EXACTLY PlexData (same camel hump)?

My gate way is 192.168.1.1 and I do not have a shared folder called PlexData.

If you do the following:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Create a shared folder, anywhere you want, named PlexData
  3. Start Plex
  4. Wait one minute
  5. Stop Plex
  • Now open Filestation
  • Navigate PlexData -> Plex Media Server
  • Right-Click Logs → Compress (zip or tar.gz)
  • Download the Logs file (ZIP or tar.gz)
  • Attach it here.

We’ll be able to see what’s going on
