Plex Server remote access only works through web ui

Server Version#:1.23.4
I have had a Plex Server running without issues on my QNAP TS-831x NAS for over a year now. Since one of the more recent updates a couple months ago I can no longer remote access it via anything other than the web-ui. The page that mentions remote access will say “not available outside your network” and then if I simply click retry with the specified port it will flip to saying “fully accessible outside the network” without my having changed any settings. Either way though no matter what it says, it will still only connect through the web ui. If I try to use an app on my phone or a tv it just hangs there and says the server is unavailable.

My router must be forwarding the port correctly or I wouldn’t be able to connect via the web ui, so I’m not really sure what could be causing the apps to not work at this point. Any help is greatly appreciated.

For some extra info if I go to
https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

That page says “unable to connect to SERVER securely”

The Plex Web General page has “Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections” set to “NEVER”

I am also now getting a message that The server “NAME” does not allow secure connections when using the app on my LAN. Is there perhaps a certificate problem somewhere or something?

Having the same issue

I came here to post a similar issue. Working fine on a DS918+ for over a year, then stopped. I am able to connect remotely to the webUI but not through the Android app. I have different issue though, as the app will connect and search etc, but won’t play any files.

I’m going to recommend the (probably) unthinkable.

Uninstall and reinstall the Android app.
Link it again and let it get its sync’d up with plex.tv again.

I use iOS but it seems Android has an issue.
