Are we able to play the podcasts using the Apple TV Plex app yet? Or is this coming soon? Podcasts show up for me on desktop, add fine, and I’ve enabled them in settings but no dice on my ATV. Thanks in adv!
Working so far so good but can’t “see” podcasts when I’m logged into plex at home on my linux box without logging in remotely over the website.
Is there an update forthcoming to enable podcasts in the server software? (ie for autodownload to the plex server for local storage)
I still don’t have the update for the Android App. Still on Version 6.17
Same here. I’ve reinstalled several times and even tried making sure I was logged in using the PlexPass option from the Plex site, in case the link was different.
Can we please, please, please get news, plugins and now podcasts in a way that they can be used in a home with managed users for the - you know - managed users?
Adding all these features which we can’t enable for the accounts we actually use stars to get really depressing.
I mean what’s the point of a system that learns the podcasts we like if the whole family would need to use the one master account to actually listen to them?

Each managed user can have access to Podcasts and News.
Each managed user can maintain his/her own, individual list of podcasts and preferred news topics.
Open the ‘hosted’ web app from https://app.plex.tv/desktop
(at this time you cannot use your local web app, it simply has not the necessary code for podcasts) Make sure you have switched to the main plex user account of your Plex Home.
Go here https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources
and set ‘News’ and ‘Podcasts’ to ‘Enabled’
Afterwards, you can switch back to your various managed user accounts and start to subscribe to the various podcasts or ‘follow’ the different news topics.
Hi OttoKerner
Thanks for the answer and that’s good to know that it works with all adults in the home - but unfortunately that means that my 7 year old would also have full access to it in her account. Sorry - forgot to mention the part where I need to be able to manage access the items like you can do for libraries. One of the main reasons to use home is to control access for children in the house.

Yes, that’s unfortunate.
The only workaround for that would be to:
create real plex.tv accounts for all the adults in the household (each one would require a separate email address).
These can still be invited into the Plex Home, so the ‘fast user switching’ and the free mobile apps are available just like they are with ‘managed’ users.

Yeah…if it keeps going like that we may have to resort to that. Not quite sure how the fast user switching screen would look then for display but at some point there may not be another option. Wonder what is lost going that route. Never really looked much into it. But if they add a feature we really want I’d have to. Thanks for the suggestion. Right now it’s just like “would be nice to play around with it”, but not required.
But I mean really, how hard would it be for the Plex team to make another checkbox in the users share dialog and sync the permissions down?

Exactly as it is now.

By default, all playlists and the ‘watched’ info of that user will be lost.
On Windows, the ‘watched’ status could be copied from the managed user accounts to the new user accounts
with Moviefan’s database tool
and dumb playlists could be copied with WebTools
@OttoKerner
Great. Thank you.
[EDIT] - I just checked Moviefan’s tool and it is reported copying the watched status doesn’t work any more

This is my experience as well… I can access podcasts through the browser using the plex.tv domain, and tablet/mobile apps are both working. But cannot access them via browser on my local network.
I’m not so much looking to import the podcasts locally though. Just hoping to get access to the feeds along with tracking which episodes have been played already.

Only because your local web app is only updated when you update plex server.
It may take one or two server updates until the necessary changes land on your server.
But let me make this clear: the two web apps work exactly the same. The flow of data is exactly the same. There is no reason why you should prefer your local version over the hosted one.

That’s already there in certain apps. Web (hosted), Android mobile and iOS

Unless you have the Plex web interface running in Muximux or Organizr and can’t open the hosted web app in the iframe. There is that reason.
I feel like this is super obvious and I just don’t see it, but where is the Sync option for podcasts? As in, I want to keep an offline collection on my device.

Fab! thank you!
Hi. I’ve updated my iOS apps and can’t find an option to add podcasts anywhere. In the ‘more’ section on my iOS app, I went to Account - Online Media Sources in the Web Player as well and can only find a tab for News. No podcasts. Any help would be appreciated.
@dontpanic79 I suspect you are using the bundled version of the Plex Web app (http://server_ip:32400/web) etc
That version does not yet have the settings for enabling or disabling Podcasts for your account.
Can you please load the hosted version here https://app.plex.tv/desktop and see if podcasts is enabled and shows up for you?
For iOS, can you please quit the app and re launch it? if it still doesn’t show up, please DM me your debug data from the app.
Strange, I was able to find Online Media Sources and set my podcasts to “enabled,” but my managed users are still unable to see podcasts… Is there an additional permission setting that needs to be switched on/off?
Thanks!
