I’ve had this problem before but it cleared itself up. But now I have just switched to the Google puck routers throughout the house and once again I cannot enable remote access with Plex to use outside the home. Would anyone have a good answer to this. Thanks in advance. Rob B.
you need to enable port forwarding on the routerr… I guess that’s what you did last time but now when you have changed router you have to enable it in google puck.
Go in to settings in plex and check your remote port for plex… Usually 32400 or something like that… Then go in to google puck settings for your router and look for port forwarding… enable port forwarding on that same port…
I went into my router and setup port forwarding for the device my Plex is on. Also called it an TCP connection. Typed in the 32400 number under internal port and external port. All seemed to setup fine. But inside Plex under remote access I’m seeing two IP address and ports, one private and one public. The private IP address and port is correct while the public is wrong. Still can not get remote access to connect. If I manually enter a port number in still won’t connect. Very confusing. Why would Plex be showing these two different IP addresses and ports. Is there somewhere I can go in Plex web site to get direct help? I hope my explaining this right. Thanks again in advance Rob B.
It is normal that Public IP and Private IP are different.
The Public IP is the IP your router has facing the Internet where the Private IP is the IP of the PMS box behind the router.
Be sure the Public IP matches your IP from you8r ISP… You can use something like http://ipchicken.com to get that.
The internal IP should match the IP of the computer your PMS is running on. Should be something like 198.162.1.xxx…
You can get that information from the connection properties dialog.
That’s the first place to check.
