Is there any easier way to set up remote access other than to do a static ip address? I want to use my pc at work to be the media server and just play them at home.
You do not need a static IP address for remote access to your Plex server.
so I need to forward a port? I don’t have access to the administrator logins for the network. do I need that?
You need access to the router that your PMS server is connected to. Usually, PMS is installed on your home network and you need to configure your home router.
If you are going to set this up at work, I would check with your IT department/person first to make sure you aren’t violating any company policies.
