ENDED: Which CPU is best for Hardware Accelerated Transcoding??

Do you have a CPU/GPU Compatibility guide that looks at Hardware Accelerated Transcoding?

Your Plex NAS Compatibility guide is fantastic!!! But I am thinking of building my own server.

Passmark is great for determining which is the best processor for software transcoding. I have not found any thing that can help me determine which CPU/GPU combo is best for HW Transcoding.

Hardware transcoding is currently just ‘in development’, so experiences and recommendations are rare.

Shouldn’t we be able to look at the spec of the CPU and the number of included ??? (I don’t know the correct word here) to determine which could handle the greatest number of transcode streams? I am assuming that Plex is just using Intel Quicksync to do the transcodes.

It is not that simple. Please refer to the thread I linked to above.
Nothing is fixed curently, either. So anything can change at any time. It is still in development. The hardware transcoding releases are still very ‘alpha’.

I am trying to decide if I should purchase a WD PR4100 or an i5-7600/8gb RAM. I don’t know if the HW Transcoding will work with the i5, I know it will with the PR4100
