I have added a number of albums by the artist Black Dice, and at first they were all being matched as Various Artists. When I edited one of the albums’ metadata manually to be Black Dice, it now shows all albums under that artist as Breathe Owl Breathe. I have tried:
both local metadata and internet metadata
making sure the directory structure is correct (artist name\album\track name)
setting the Album Artist tag in every track by the artist
Does the artist folder and the embedded albumartist tag say the same thing?
i.e. if AlbumArtist is “Various Artists”, then the album must be stored into the folder for Various Artists.
Verify again that all tracks have identical content in their AlbumArtist tags.
Yes, the album artist is set in every file as Various Artists, and the directory structure is:
\Various Artists\Album Name\01 Track Name.mp3
If I add another album to this folder with Various Artists as the Album Artist tag, it also shows up as Hainbach. Every album with the album artist set to Various Artists is showing up with Hainbach instead.
Verify again, that all tracks inside the Various Artists folder 1) do have indeed an AlbumArtist tag, and 2) that this tag always contains “Various Artists”.
Keep in mind that Plex can not read meta tags from all file formats. (WAV or MKA are among the non-supported formats.)
Then move the Various Artists folder to a location where it cannot be “seen” by Plex server. Scan library + Empty trash
Then wait 1 week, while your server is performing its nightly server maintenance. If you switch the server off during the night, (or let it go into hibernation,) set the time period for server maintenance so that the server is active during this time.
