Entire Plex server (NAS access) goes down when trying to add subtitles (remote)

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

When I click my way to download or upload subtitles to a movie my entire NAS crashes From Plex and stays out of commission for hours.

I run Plex on Synology DS218+

This happens no matter if I try this via the app (iOS) or via Webb app (MacOS Mojave).

I am remote when experiencing this.
I can still connect to my NAS and it’s uptime shows that the NAS does not shut down when the above happens.

I have a Plex Pass for remote access. Plex worked until I tried to add subtitles.

Can you please obtain the log files?

Since it stops responding when you attempt to manipulate logs,
After you attempt again, restart Plex and download the logs through the GUI.
Attach that ZIP here and I’ll look.

Thanks @ChuckPa

Here are the log files.
Since I can’t access my server now I just got the log files in the current state. If I misunderstood anything do let me know.

Is this a synology? Network adapters don’t match anything I’ve ever seen.

There is major file system damage. Most of the log files have been truncated to zero length and the beginning of this server log file contains only null chacters

I have a small part on my Mac as well. Forgot to mention it as I plan to move all that to the NAS.
The Mac stuff is accessible on Plex as I have the Mac with me (I guess that is the reason It is accessible at least). That could be what makes it look different from the Synology part as well.

Is there anything I can do to fix this and get it to work since it did work prior to trying to add the subs?

This is from a MAC and it’s corrupt already?
Please help me understand better.

If both of these are true, you have a major problem to resolve first and that’s your data integrity .

Are you performing normal shutdowns or are you just turning it off?
Is this machine/server using a UPS ?

On Plex I have one portion via a Synology NAS (about 90-95%). I also have a small portion via a Mac HD 5-10%.

The Mac (laptop) I close when I do not use it (only reboots on updates or if needed).

No UPS. The Synology shuts down on schedule each night as well.

Where is the active server? On the Mac or on the Synology?
Your logs were so corrupted the header had been overwritten with nulls.

I feel, wherever PMS is running, you really should run a file system check to start repairing the damage.

If this continues, I’m going to suggest you wipe plex and start fresh.

I’m not sure. As far as I can tell I set them up as two separate servers.
I had the Mac server up first and then did a Plex installation on my Synology and added it.

I will do this on both just to make sure.

I really hope it doesn’t come to this.
Just to be sure … when you say “ wipe plex and start fresh” what do you mean exactly?

When I say “Wipe plex”, I mean precisely that.

  1. Uninstall the package
  2. Remove the Plex share from the Synology & and the ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server folder from the Mac
  3. Remove the Plex user
  4. Restart
  5. Reinstall and setup again as new

Thank you @ChuckPa

So I can still keep the same Plex account (my login and Plex Pass) - that is not causing any issues?
Or is #3 to remove the account / login?

I really appreciate your help and quick responses.

Your Plex account can have multiple servers.
There is no need to forego your PlexPass privileges.

There is a limit but nothing worth mentioning or even worrying about at this point.
I have a normal PlexPass account and have my production plus 12 test & development servers on it without issue.

Big thanks for the help again, @ChuckPa , much appreciated.

I’m glad I can help.

If you ever wonder what’s attached to your account, go to

Settings - Authorized Devices.

There you’ll see everything.

From time to time, I go in and delete all the extra web players that pop up as versions change.
