EPG data does not fully load

I jumped the gun on my earlier report. I should have looked further out. My EPG is marginally better than yesterday. I now show Fri thru Tue 10:30pm MT. Just under 5 days of guide info.

The problems are not normal. This is the first time in over a year of subscribing that I’ve seen it.

Running into the same issue. USA OTA. Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 64 bit, PMS 1.13.9.5456, HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD Tuner Card. The issues seem to have coincided with the Authentication issues on November 6th; but this could just be anecdotal evidence and may or may not have anything to do with the issues I am currently experiencing. The Guide previously displayed two weeks of data when working properly. At one point yesterday I had no Guide data at all. Currently I have data for today (Friday November 9th) and tomorrow. Sunday November 11th and beyond I get the message that the guide is empty and to verify my channel mappings / refresh the Guide. I have completed the typical troubleshooting steps multiple times. Reboot, Rescan, etc.

Yesterday morning I had the full guide, but then it disappeared in the afternoon with the message “The Guide is empty”.

What is strange is that, even though grid guide is empty, I can still search the next two weeks of listings and I can see “poster view”. So apparently the the guide data is somewhere in Plex, but it’s corrupting the grid builder. Or else there are two copies.

I’m sure this doesn’t apply to new users who can’t get a first time download of the data.

Not sure why this worked for me but I thought I would share it. On both my Plex servers I was able to get he EPG data loaded 100% by doing the following:

  1. Navigate to Settings -> Live TV and DVR. Click “Refresh guide”
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Troubleshooting. Click “Optimize Database” followed by “Clean Bundles”.
  3. Repeat steps above. Each time you do the process the EPG refresh gets a little further.

In my experience, the refresh gets a little further each time even if you just click ‘Refresh guide’ every couple of minutes without doing anything else in between.

Just clicking “Refresh Guide” by itself repeatedly was not working on either of my servers. It was not making any further progress than the previous time.

Been trying regularly most of the day. Still only have about 12 hours of guide available. Having bought lifetime plex pass yesterday, it’s all very uninspiring. The TV features just don’t work. Given that this a complete feature breaking problem and we’re approaching the end of the 2nd day with problem, very unimpressed that there is no official information about when the problem might be fixed.

@sa2000, any update from the provider?

Same issue here, had to keep hitting refresh until it completed. Probably 15-20 times.

MovieWiz, don’t lose heart - I’ve been using the live TV features for several months now and it is typically much more solid than this.

Yeah, kinda like Amazon Prime Day outage, but overall the TVguide is solid

Thanks. The guide finally updated late in the afternoon, after two days of trying. Guessing that the incomplete/corrupt guide must have been causing the strange behaviours I was seeing. Now, it is behaving pretty much like DVRs I’ve used in the past.

I was only able to download about a weeks worth of TVguide.

I don’t have any update yet. I expect it will be Monday before we hear anymore.

Update to my previous post. I can confirm that I was finally able to get the Guide to update to 100% and complete by Refreshing the Guide numerous times in a row without doing anything else in Plex. It took 20+ refreshes to finally complete. Hopefully we can get some feedback on what is causing this.

Yes, I posted that it finally worked for me – once (out of at least 100 attempts)!! When the guide refreshed again, I’m back to only having about 12 hours of guide available. So, definitely not impressed as a new user. How can you schedule anything to record if you only know about the next 12 hours? And even if you use another site to see what’s on, you can’t record it in the Plex DVR because you can only schedule programs that you can see in the guide. If this problem can’t be solved reliably – then PLEX needs to add the ability to add a recording manually by channel number, time and length. It’s just not acceptable that you can’t record anything because the guide has decided that it won’t work right now.

We are seeing the same issue as everyone else here.

JSON error reads:
{
“message”: “Request forbidden by administrative rules”,
“__type”: “CloudSearchException”
}

On a side note, one of the shows that my wife watches will occasionally not show up on the guide, so it doesn’t record. I was wondering if the guide might be refreshing or something during the time her show is supposed to be on? Any pointers on what log to look at or what to look for when we notice it happening?

The Plex Media Server log files with debug logging enabled would record when the guide refreshes. There is an incremental update every 4 hours

Here is another reason why we need a manual recording option (record by channel+time+duration, no guide references). I’m sure Plex and GraceNote will figure this out but in the meantime it would let everyone else work around the problem.
