EPG not refreshing fully

Server Version: 1.13.5.5332
EPG Provider: Ziggo (Netherlands)
DVR: HDHomeRun EXPAND via tvheadend

Starting this week, the EPG data barely works anymore. Before it worked perfectly fine.

There are huge gaps in the guide data / some channels don’t have any guide data at all. See below:

When forcing a refresh of the guide data, it seems to have no errors or problems. However, the status shows that just a couple of broadcasts were added (in the thousands, where normally it would be tens of thousands). See picture below:

I can’t spot anything in the logs that looks weird to me.

What I’ve tried to fix the issue:

  • Restart the Plex Media Server
  • Wait a couple of days
  • Forcing the refresh of Guide data multiple times
  • Removing the guide database (tv.plex.providers.epg.*)
  • Re-add the DVR
  • Remove channels

All without success unfortunately.

Does anyone else experience similar issues? What could the problem be?

Starting today, the guide is fully refreshing again. I’m not sure what changed; I didn’t touch anything.

Waiting seems to be the solution ;). Hopefully it won’t happen again.

I am having nearly the same problem. On my Netgear router, guide refresh is at 100% and has been for days. Tried restarting the router and then refreshing the guide. Did not fix the problem. Not really happy as we are missing recordings of shows now.

Do you have " Enhanced Program Guide" turned on? I think (but am not sure) that this influences this behavior. Since I turned it off, I didn’t experience this behavior anymore.

Is there any update from Plex on the status on fixing the EPG issues with their meta data partner? I just got an Nvidia Shield TV with a Hauppauge tuner to record over the air TV shows. Installed last week so I am running the current server 1.13.6.5456. I am having all sorts of EPG issues. I live in the SF bay area so my tuner picks up 89 channels of which I have filtered to just 8. The primary EPG issue seems to be I have to run it manually between 10-20 times to get it to make it all the way through a scan (to 100%). Each attempt seems to make it progressively farther (a few more percentages) before just stopping until I finally get to the retry that is 100%. As already reported there seems to be nothing in the standard logs to indicate anything about the refresh so I can’t determine what is going on. In addition, when the EPG refresh runs over night it also seems to fail prematurely because in the morning I will have lost parts of the EPG I had successfully downloaded manually the day before. This implies that plex isn’t doing a diff either in the request for updated epg and/or in bringing in the new data.

My concern here is the server/dvr is presumably a brick if you have recordings (like record a series) but lacks EPG info. Let me know if this isn’t true. As I am mostly interested in using the server/DVR as a device when I am away from home and don’t have access to the server it would really help to get a reply as to whether this is likely to be a medium/long term problem or something that hopefully will be fixed imminently. So I would appreciate an update from Plex on their general disclaimer at the top of this target that they are aware of the problem and working on it.

If for some reason there is a Beta version of the Medis Server for Nvidia Shield TV that would improve this please let me know as I am currently just running the public release.

Oh and if it matters. The EPG provider for my system seems to be Gracenote.
