I have a couple shows which aren’t sorted by season/episode and aren’t on any databases that plex can query, so I’m just manually naming each one. Since there is no season, I’m just adding them by air date instead of by season/episode number.
I will manually correct the episode title and the sort title (and lock them), but as soon as a new episode is dropped into the folder, it will go through and erase all the episode titles (but keep the sort title) and just use the air date as the episode title.
Go to the top level of this show (the ‘show’ level, not the ‘season’ nor the ‘episode’ level)
use the Match command
‘Auto-Match’
‘Personal Media Shows’
Only after you did this, your custom metadata won’t get removed upon the next library scan.
If you don’t do this with an ‘unmatchable’ item, Plex will try and try again to match it. During this matching attempt, it will remove most of the manually edited metadata.
