Episode titles not correct

where does the plex tv agent get episode titles from?

i have 2 episodes of a season named “Episode 3” and “TBA”.
yet both thetvdb and themoviedb have the correct episode titles.

i’ve manually refreshed the metadata for both episodes which made no difference

Have you tried refreshing the entire show?

I have also found this happens occasionally, annoying. Only happens since the new agent upgrade.

yes, made no difference.

if anything like the OP, this issue is intermittent - getting your butt off the couch and refreshing is a PITA. Eventually, usually the next day you can do a refresh and it will sort itself.

Never used to happen as well. So if anything it’s a bug.

what about them?
as your screenshot is non-English i have no idea what screen you are showing

There are two potential issues being discussed here:

  1. Very recently made changes at the source (e.g. TVDB, TMDB) may take 1 - 2 days to fully propagate on to our metadata servers. This is completely expected.
  2. If there are items that are not showing the correct changes after this period then that’s probably a bug somewhere and I try to investigate these cases asap.

In all cases enabling the library preference Scheduled TasksRefresh library metadata periodically will ensure that newly added episodes automatically update every day during your set maintenance window. This should be enabled by default and will ensure you don’t have to manually refresh the metadata.

Thanks, I’ve picked up an issue with these specific episodes. It’s being looked into.

hopefully you get to the bottom of it, it does happen infrequently (to me) but it never used to happen before i upgraded the library. it’s more of an annoyance than anything.

After an initial look, it appears to be related to some oddities with the updated TVDB api we’re using, we’re filing an issue with them to take a look.

In the meantime you could potentially work around this by using the TMDB ordering for this show by editing the show, going to advanced and then setting Episode ordering to TheMovieDatabase (Aired). This may or may not be a solution depending on whether the ordering matches your filenames.

which episodes, the ones i mentioned or the ones the second poster mentioned?

The ones you mentioned from Vanderpump Rules.

this has sorted the naming issue for this show, as a temporary measure.

i refreshed the show after a day and it came through.

this is still an issue.
i have encountered the same problem with Dexter New Blood.

no episode info pulled thru unless i manually change the ordering to use TheMovieDB.

I have the same prob with Dexter New Blood. MovieDB made no difference. Will check to see if it updates in a day. Nutty!

I’ll accept “bugs” for a few months. Really, this agent change should’ve been given more attention before rollout.

Glad I haven’t upgraded to the new agent. I know it’s inevitable but will handle that job when I’m forced.

@AlRayPlex I hear you, I was very hesitant to go to the new agent I will say that once I pulled the trigger well overall I’ve been happy with it and now have very few issues. The change though is akin to maybe migrating a server. So some pain but once it’s done pretty much worth it.

Dexter NB is now correct with TMDB. Needed to be named as Dexter New Blood and be picked up as S01 and NOT as Dexter S09. Banner didn’t auto populate though.

Power, how long did it take you to “clean up” the new agent changes, and what were the most problematic changes? Just want to know what to prepare for when I’m forced.

A couple of hours at least - tv shows in general very much behaved themselves for me (I don’t have any anime - so yeah pretty painless). I have 730 shows with close to 30,000 episodes. Movies on the other hand was interesting, Plex took a really long time to crawl through my primary library - 2200 movies, (i have a secondary kids movies library with about 350 movies that just blazed through), It replaced literally every single cover - and i don’t really like a lot of default covers as I prefer the original theatrical poster over the almost fan made looking ones that plex likes to default to, and updated metadata in all libraries so it’s a lengthy process to sort of float through and choose more appropriate covers (I believe you can avoid this by locking covers). Halfway through I thought it was a total train smash, however by the end of it all my library was just as good as before if nor better. and i would not want to go back. No watch history or any other important data like that was lost.

negatives were that i did have to restart the server after an hour or so as everything seemed to kind of stall. that was about it. Although I did have to re-add movies to my manual collections. There has been some work on collections of late and this may actually be a moot point.

end of the day they have stated this change is coming and will be basically forced upon you to retain the server going forward, so once again - i just bit the bullet and dealt with the pain. my server isn’t super complex and my naming was all in order so that attn to detail helped.

Thank you, this helped my issue. Though mainly I think the issue in my case is that TVDB has incorrect data for “The New York Times Presents.” TMDB and RT see this as a singular show while TVDB lumps it and “The Weekly” as one show so it shows up twice in the Plex Search when matching. However when selecting the correct version, none of the episode metadata populates almost as if it’s trying to pull from a non-existent source at TVDB. At least that’s my theory lol.
