Episodes recorded from DVR found on server, but missing in plex library

Setup: DVR records primetime shows and adds files to SSD.
At 6am, cron job moves recorded show’s files to redundant drives on same box.
This has worked for a year.

I have had this happen with only 2 shows “Supergirl” & “Elementary”, but the Webclient shows that I have unwatched episodes with the number in the corner of new episdoes, but when I click on the show in the library, it’s missing those shows.

So Plex knows they exist, but somehow they aren’t there. I did find that if I click on the “Recently Added” that points directly to an episode, it does pull it up and can be watched, but missing from the rest of the library. So basically if I don’t watched it while it’s still in the “recently added” section, I’ll miss the chance to find it in the web client.

This also applies to the android app, I can see the badge that there’s unwatched episodes, but not present in the library.

Check and see what your libraries are pointing to… Not sure if you are Linux or Win

Normally if you cannot see media in a library it indicates that the file system(s) the library is pointing to are not the ones with media in them.

if your DVR is pointing to Recorded_TV, but your library is pointing to “Recorded TV” then it would never see the files… Compare those 2.

I’m on ubuntu linux, 18.04,

All the other shows from that library are getting picked up just fine. For some reason, I’ve only seen on two shows so far. It’s just very strange. When it was just one show, I honestly just used VLC to watch those missing episodes and “moved on”, but now that it’s happening to another show, I’m reaching out. I’ve moved the the files out, back into the directories with rescans in between. I’ve changed all the files ownership to plex and my own user, I’ve tried various permissions groups from 777 and down to read only access. No change, for those two shows, new episodes don’t show up in the library even they were recorded OTA with Plex.

I may be seeing something similar - in my case, it appears that DVR episodes in different seasons are getting marked as parts of each other. The following two files are getting treated as a single entry by Plex, for unknown reasons:

/media/television/American Ninja Warrior (2009)/Season 10/American Ninja Warrior (2009) - S10E03 - Miami City Qualifiers.ts
/media/television/American Ninja Warrior (2009)/Season 11/American Ninja Warrior (2009) - S11E03 - Oklahoma City City Qualifiers.ts

I don’t know how to fix it yet, but the symptoms match what you’re seeing - the show records, but doesn’t appear in the interface. (The Season 11 episodes are showing up under the metadata entry for the Season 10 episodes.)

If you use the web interface and view by folders, can you see the “missing” recordings and get information on them?

I’ve never tried the folder few, just did now and yes, I can see the “missing” video files that aren’t showing in the regular library.

If you “Get Info” from the folder view, what metadata do you see? Are the files marked as “part” of another episode (same symptoms I have), or do you have a different issue?
