I have a TV show in a library where I had one single episode. I have set up another separate library for my DVR recordings. These are separate libraries with completely separate folders. I started recording episodes of the show that I have the one episode of in my other library. The issue here is that I cannot see the episodes in the DVR based library. In the TV Show library, I was able to only see the one episode, but it showed 6 unwatched. I went ahead and deleted the single episode in the TV Shows library, and now it does not show any episodes, but it shows 5 unwatched episodes in the little marker at the top right.
I have rescanned both libraries and also made sure that they have no overlapping folders. Like I said, I then deleted the one show from the TV Show library and also rescanned. It still shows that show as available with 5 episodes, but does not show them in the listing (which it shouldn’t, because they are not technically in this library.) If I click on the Play Next, it will start playing the DVR recorded copy even though those should be in the separate DVR recorded folder. I believe this is a bug. Any thoughts? Is there something I can provide to the Plex team to look at this?
Forgot to add in this bit of info. When I am looking at the listing of shows in the DVR TV Show library, the show being mentioned doesn’t show up at all, even though the existing recordings were done with the DVR. The files are in the DVR TV Show folder as well. Not sure how the wrong library is picking up the files.
Is there a way to take this offline so that I can show you files and folders, and screenshots of what is going on? Looking at it right now, the files are in the DVR TV Shows folder, but not showing up in the guide for DVR TV Show. In the TV Shows folders there are no instances of this show, but it shows up in the guide saying there are 5 unwatched shows. From there, if I click on the entry I don’t see any seasons, but if I click on view Play it will play the first show in the DVR TV Shows folder.
Can we either setup a Teams/Zoom call, or can we take this private so I am not publishing all my screenshots to the world?
Just to close the loop on this, it appears the issue stemmed from some Plex Media Server confusion as to which library “owned” the series in question. In this case, performing a modified version of the Plex Dance (to accommodate for two libraries) resolved the current issue. It’s not clear at this point how the server became confused in the first place and I’ve suggested checking the database for potential corruption. Further monitoring will be necessary to see if the issue occurs again with this series or others.
Keep in mind that the matching done by Plex DVR and matching for a regular TV show are not the same. If you use Plex’s guide, the matching will be done using Gracenote, while regular TV libraries will use the native Plex TV agent. These have different IDs so they will not show up as the same show.
You’ve basically rematched the DVR’d shows to the Plex agent.
Yep, as intended in this case. Unfortunately the DVR’s guide data didn’t transfer to the DVR library (the show didn’t present at all) with the original recordings. This was an effort to correct that, for this specific series.
If you have other suggestions as to how this could be corrected, feel free to offer them. I believe @idavisPlex backed up their database and could likely easily roll back, if necessary, to troubleshoot further.
Hmm. Not sure how that could happen. If it was in the guide, the data is there and gets reused. I’d need to see the PMS logs when the recording finished to see why it didn’t get added.
