Error 0x80070643 on installation

Hi, I'm trying to install the Plex Media Server (Plex-Media-Server-0.9.907.429-f80a8d6-en-US, MD5: 020AB6CCDB30F93FCB40518C438CE4F8) but apparently there is just no way for me to do it.

During installation it gives me this error:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC90.CRT,version="9.0.30729.6161",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

Then the Plex installer tells me that the error "0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation" occurred and finalizes the installation unsuccessfully,

I've tried turning the Windows firewall off and on again, restarting the machine, downloading the installer a bunch of times... but nothing changes.

Could you help me out? Thank you.

Here is the log file if that helps:

There are two main causes of such errors

- if windows 8 the windows firewall needs to be running as the install program makes changes to it

- for all versions, in the past 3 months or so had lots of cases of incomplete download files. So check the downloaded install file by right click / file properties / and see if there is a Digital Signatures tab with Plex Inc certificate. If cannot be seen it means it is incomplete. Delete and retry. You may need to change browser. Google Chrome is very bad at this treating timeouts as successful completion of download. IE11 has been seen to be good at getting a complete file

If it is neither of these then will need to look at the big msi log file associated with the file you copied above. As it is massive you would need to zip and upload to Dropbox or similar service and share a link

Google search for

site:forums.plex.tv 0x80070643

should find all recent threads

First of all, thank you for the quick reply, sa2000.

I've already looked up recent threads but sadly I could not resolve the issue. I forgot to mention that I've already checked if the signature was ok, and I've already downloaded it with IE and tried, but no luck.

Also, the windows firewall is running OK. And I run the setup as an administrator. I don't know what could be the issue.

I'm currently running the Fix it tool from Microsoft to see if that helps.

I'm sorry, but what msi file do you want me to upload?

I'm sorry, but what msi file do you want me to upload?

These are the 2 log files.

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp\Plex Media Server_yyyymmddhhmmss.log

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Temp\Plex Media Server_yyyymmddhhmmss_0_pms.log

The 2nd one is the detailed one which should have the underlying errors. It is big so would need to be uploaded elsewhere if you need help

So looking at your pasted log file, i would say the other log file is

C:\Users\Alberto\AppData\Local\Temp\Plex Media Server_20140405005009_0_pms.log

Thank you again.

Here the link to the first one;

And here's the link to the second one.

Please let me know if I can help you with something else.

Thanks for the logs

When running the install were you running it as Adminstrator?

Was Plex Media Server shut down?

Do you have Aviva Anti Virus?

The main detailed log file shows these errors

Previous reporting of this error for Plex Media Server install. There are a couple of different resolutions in the thread. Also you see from the error that there is another log file that may shed light. But first try what is suggested

https://forums.plex.tv/topic/38018-error-installing-plex-media-server/

Thanks.

I was running it with administrator privileges, yes.

I was not running any instance of Plex Media Server, I'm trying to install it for the first time.

I don't have Aviva Antivirus. I have Avast! Antivirus, which doesn't have any proprietary firewall, anyway, I've tried disabling it altogether and running the installer but it didn't work either.

I'm trying to look for an answer googleing the errors on the log, but if I can fix it, it'll be pure luck.

I have given two links which would you could start with

Quickly looking at them - the ideas given were

-    sfc.exe  /scannow

-   Windows Module Installer Service

-   security anti-virus software

-   checking %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log for more diagnostic information

and you now also have another error code to search for 0x80070714

I had Win7 Home with Avast antivirus installed trying to also install PMS with no other software to interfere and I got the same install 0x80070643 error after numerous downloads using Google Chrome. I eventually uninstalled Avast, then used Internet Explorer to download the PMS file. It was only then that I was able to successfully download & install PMS. I also erred on the side of caution and installed Avira antivirus afterwards. Been running for over a week with no problems. Hope this helps!

Today I got the excact same error message when installing ver. 0.9.9.14 on a clean Windows 7 Enterprise installation. Used Chrome for downloading the PMS setup file.

Then I downloaded the same file using IE and the installation of PMS worked fine.

Any ideas on what this could be?

There have been lots of cases of curtailed downloads using Google Chrome where the downloads completes with no errors but the file is incomplete. IE has been seen to be more reliable, No idea why but years ago Chrome had such issues which you can find by searching the web

Every we download we should check the file and the easiest check is file properties and look for Digital Signatures tab with entry for Plex Inc. The signature is written to the last block of the file so the absence of a Digital Signatures tab would show incomplete downloads

The Plex Team have been asked to publish the size of the file and md5 checksum. We are yet to see that.

There was also a possibility that they would release the windows file as self extracting zip which might allow early detection of the problem

I had the same issue.

Downloaded again with Downthemall extension on Mozilla Firefox. Same errror.

Disabled Security Essentials AV. Same error.

Then my windows advised me about a pending restart for windows update. After the reboot, setup was successful.

Probably it was a conflict with one or more windows updates.

Hope this helps!

Why on earth does one NEED to have Windows 8.1 firewall active to install plex media server? i do not, nor ever plan to actually use windows firewall, and i fail to see the need to enable it. Plex should be able to work in the case of one using another firewall.....

what other way to install plex is there that does NOT require activation of windows firewall?

At some point it was found that the issue with needing the firewall was to do with .net issues and on the support pages there is a page which refers to a Microsoft support page giving steps for removing old .net versions - I an on iPhone and can’t easily search but go to support.plex.tv and scroll to near bottom to where there is link to install uninstall error messages support page

The advice there re .net worked for some users and did not for others - do try it

If not, activate the firewall run the setup and then deactivate it and switch to your preferred firewall which you will then need to manually configure for plex

So, instead of working out the .net issues, or choosing another programming platform, plex decides to force users to use or at least activate (with all the system conflicts that it carries to activate a second firewall) windows firewall........... nice, really nice.....

Had the same problem on win 10 win-1803 , removed KB4023057, and upgraded to win 10-1903 , plex installed and running
