Error code: s1001 (Network) on New Install of Plex Server For PC

Server Version#:1.41.2.9200-c6bbc1b53
Player Version#:
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Hi, I’m fairly new to using Plex in general so please bare with me here.

I’m having issues playing my content through my browser getting a ‘Error code: s1001 (Network)’ popup. My media is on an external hard drive into my server and everything seems to pick up properly but for some reason the video just doesn’t want to play.

I’ve also tried to migrate my files onto my main HDD to see if things would change, and nothing turned up. Everything is on the local WIFI network and everything seems to be running okay but I’m stumped. My bandwidth + hardware should be able to keep up with trans-coding no issue.

Thanks for any help towards getting my server going! Cheers!

Good evening,

I have the same error code.
My Windows SSD crashed before I understand settings of Plex as video isn’t smooth at all so new install on new SSD and now plex is showing this error. Impossible to solve!!!
Why Plex is so complex??? How do I play DV mkv???
I’m so disapointed, thanks for ANY help.

I have the same thing S101 on live TV. Server is on a Windows 11 Pro, Using IPTV running through xTeVe. Trough shot everything and ended with it is Plex. Uninstalled the latest update and installed a 2022 version of Plex and everything works very well. Hope you fix it soon. I liked the Newer versions until it went to ■■■■. I would be happy to have a 64 bit version of 1.23.0.4459, for some reason mine is a 32 bit.

This error seems to be creeping back in to a lot of people’s setups. It’s affecting only one of my libraries, so I deleted it and created a new one from the same source folder. Alas, no bueno.

Not sure what’s going on at all, but my frustration level is mounting. If it creeps into my main libraries that some of my friends stream from, it will become a critical issue on my end. For now, its just my test library with 20 or so movies.

Same issue here…starting to see it occur on one of my TV drives. Anyone have a solution?

This is also happening to me. Any solutions will be greatly appreciated.

This seems like a serious enough problem for some users (in this thread) - yet no one has posted/uploaded logs?
So OP for links on how to get logs

Hello everyone, just thought I would drop this in here for a further push on this. Someone who I am sharing my library with experienced this issue for an episode of Super Girl.

I performed the following.

Windows icon + R
Typed %AppData%
And went to the following path
AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Logs
I looked at the logs available and found in the “Plex Media Deep Analysis” Logs. I copied the error into chat GPT which replied with.

You’re dealing with a corrupted video file or one that’s in a non-standard format that Plex/FFmpeg can’t parse.

Key log lines:

text

CopyEdit

ERROR - EBML header parsing failed
ERROR - Invalid data found when processing input

Breakdown:

  • EBML header is part of the MKV container format. If Plex can’t read it, the file is likely:
    • Corrupted
    • Not a proper MKV despite the extension
    • Incompatible with FFmpeg used by Plex

Fix Options:

  1. Test the file manually:
  • Open the file with VLC or MPV. If it doesn’t play or crashes, it’s corrupted.
  • If it plays, it may still be malformed enough for Plex to reject it.
  1. Re-encode or remux:
  • Use MKVToolNix to remux the file:

lua

CopyEdit

mkvmerge -o output.mkv "Supergirl S01E17 ... .mkv"
  • Or re-encode using HandBrake:
    • Choose “Fast 720p30” preset
    • Output as .mkv or .mp4
  1. File integrity check:
  • Compare with another copy (if available).
  • If downloaded via torrent/NZB, recheck hash or redownload.

Final Note:

This isn’t a network (s1001) issue in this specific case. The root cause is invalid media structure, and Plex logs are pointing directly at the file parsing failure.

Hope this Helps!
