Error Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

I have had my library scanning toned down to every 12 hours since I saw the suggestion. I can say it seems to happen less frequently, but I still get this error. sine it just happened earlier today, i checked my windows logs as you suggested, and sure enough, once a day i have event 4227.

“TCP/IP failed to establish an outgoing connection because the selected local endpoint was recently used to connect to the same remote endpoint. This error typically occurs when outgoing connections are opened and closed at a high rate, causing all available local ports to be used and forcing TCP/IP to reuse a local port for an outgoing connection. To minimize the risk of data corruption, the TCP/IP standard requires a minimum time period to elapse between successive connections from a given local endpoint to a given remote endpoint.”

We have seen this arise when reaching over the 4100 movies in a library scan. It is suspected to have started when curl was upgraded within Plex Media Server. We have an outstanding issue raised on this

Hi, I have recently been experiencing the same issue. Running Plex docker in portainer on OpenMediaVault 5.4.3.1. all worked until Plex version 1.19.2.2737. Upgraded my Docker to Plex 1.19.3.2764 but still have the Error. A short console dump below, and full logs attached. any pointer would be welcome

Figured it out… turns out it was more of an Open Media Vault issue than anything else. OMV mounts external partitions as noexec by default, and since my library, temp files, etc., are all on a mounted partition that is not the OS partition, this seems to have caused a bunch of issues with plex not having enough privileges to run “normally”.
removing the noexec fix is described here Filesystem Environmental Variables — openmediavault 5.x.y documentation

rebooted OMV, restarted Docker, Portainer, and the Plex container, and everything is trans-coding fine now, no more errors.

Got the inspiration from those posts :

Hope it helps!

This is still happening, just not as often. Now I see I am getting roped into other people with the same issue, but random thoughts on fixing this, one being malwarebytes (don’t have it installed) and others having issues with plex on roku (nope, amazon firecube) so I guess the long and short is there is no answer to this problem yet?

Yep, getting the same error as well. Would be great if fixed soon. Can provide logs if needed.

The Error is a generic error text message that could arise for many different underlying reasons - including bad or missing srt files.

Would need debug server logs to see what the underlying cause is

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

i suppose i’ll turn debug logging back on and send the log in next time it happens since there is no rhyme or reason to when it does occur.

It literally just happened right now. I only hit OK. to close the error on tv and went to server and downloaded the logs straight away. Here you go.Plex Media Server Logs_2020-06-04_23-06-26.zip (6.5 MB)

Good afternoon felas…

I was having problems with 2 specific files. And the problem was a corrupted subtitle (.srt). I replaced the subtitle for another one and remux again to .mkv. Everything is working fine now. I hope you guys have yours fixed too soon.

This is the issue that was investigated in another forum thread and summarized here Transcoder crashes on access errors - #27 by sa2000

Basically we are running out of tcp ip ports and has been seen to happen when scanning large movies libraries - with more than 4000 movies

It was a change in curl that resulted in us using 6 ports for every movie and the ports cannot be reused till TIME_WAIT expires.

There is an open issue with our development team.

Do you have large movies libraries ?

It is possible that the new Movie Scanner avoids this issue - see the forum preview release New Plex Media Server movie scanner and agent preview

I do not have a single movie library over 4000 movies, but if you add all of my movie libraries together it is over 4000. And I did see the other thread, and had turned down the frequency of scanning which seemed to have made it happen less often, which would make sense if it is the scan that is doing it.

Are you taking a page from Microsoft, and just saying “well, we aren’t sure, but here is an upgrade that might fix something” lol

Not all upgrades fix things, my Aomei backup software released a fundamentally broken version just recently, and manually downgrading the broken driver was quite a hassle, yesterday.

Anyway, I’ll give that other version a spin and see. Assuming I don’t already have it.

As I guessed, I am on Version 1.19.4.2902. So I should digress to that version to try this create new library thing? Rading that over, there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to test that nor to actively switch to it sine functionality is not all inteact. Doesn’t seem like a viable fix at all. Maybe I am missing something

jackmeat

It is because i have not used the new movies scanner myself yet and have not studied logs - but I know that it runs in-line and not as a separate process - so I would expect less requests being made which would mean less ports used up.

OK - we have an open issue. I do not know how soon there will be a fix to the problem which was caused by an upgrade to curl

is what it is then. suppose i’ll try to find a way for it to never be scanning the library when i am watching. maybe an implementation for the library scan to be skipped if PMS is currently in use for playback? simple checkbox?

@Steve-Pippin i had exactly same problem on my server just other day, try many things but nothing worked but followed this and instantly it stopped giving me and my users this exact same error you are getting.

An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app - #236 by DaveBinM?

Filled in Custom Certificate Domain with a DDNS address i have like this guy did.
if you dont have a dynamic dns service just put in your wan ip if its static and doesnt change after few days/weeks or you’ll need a DDNS running on server or your router.

@jackmeat give this a go also, solved the problem for some of us anyway if you further below in that topic

@shavedbroom thanks for keeping me in mind. That error is not one I am receiving, and also in that thread is some issue pertaining to the new media player. I won’t touch that thing with a 10 foot pole. They won’t ever fix it, and I prefer not to wait until about 10-15 seconds into anything I start playing to actually see anything happen. So I am sticking with the old player until they fix that issue. (see:never) But having the plex server do its scan at 3am and only once a day seems to be working since nothing is playing at that time by me. I guess my friends in the USA that stream from me have been lucky to not get the error as of now. Preferably this issue was fixed properly, and not a bunch of strange suggestions and try this stuff type answers. But as I said, is what it is. Since I have no “plex pass” by my name, I have no room to complain, BUT I see that next to your name, I sure as hell would be pissed for an ongoing legit issue going on for over a year without resolution if I were paying for it.

I had the same error come up yesterday and when I closed the error the movie came back up in a smaller screen with the black bars on all 4 sides. I watched the movie like normal in 1080P from my Synology server and about 10 minutes in when the error happened. I have a .MKV library of 200+ movies. Has anyone had this happen?
