Error - Conversion failed. Transcoder crashed or failed to start. PMS 1.10.1.4602

I don’t have any update from the development team

I am now getting this error when playing music using the Windows Store App on Windows Phone 10. The files are in .flac format, and were working a week ago.

Please advise what logs you require (from the phone and/or the server)

Hi @sa2000 ,

is It something that development team is aware of? It is been more than almost 3 months and It’s really annoying.

Regards

I am also having the same issue. I have posted my own thread. I am monthly plex pass subscriber. So I am hoping that this gets resolved quickly!

Yes it has been raised. I will put another chase. So far there have only been half a dozen confirmed to be the issue that you have -

I have responded to your topic - your logs did not attach

Thanks @sa2000 for the feedback.

Hope it gets resolved quickly. :slight_smile:

This seams to be getting worst instead of better on every update for me!!!

I am sorry but we have to adjust the transcoder level logging that was done by Regedit

Could you change it from verbose to debug in the string value for registry item TranscoderLogLevel

@nbaprofo basically the verbose transcoder logging - although termed as verbose - did not shed light on the cause of the problem. debug ttranscoder log level logs a lot more - but we have a risk in that the extra logging may slow down the transcoder and introduce other issues. I hope this will not happen and you will be able to replicate the same error with debug logging

I think I may have found a work around after trying everything I could to fix it.

What I did was complete uninstall and delete all the folders and reg keys, anything I could find linked to plex and removed them.

turned off the pc and waited 10 mins, turn it back on wait 10 mins again. finally renamed the source folder (movies=movies2.0) and reinstalled plex. waited till all meta data has been found and tested, so it now works on my smart tv, pc, firestick and phone. good luck!

Just changing the source folder maybe enough, but I dont know

@sa2000 ,

Just changed the logging level to debug.

I will send you logs as soon as I get the error.

@crangus

Thanks for the suggestion but I already tried it at the beggining.

@sa2000

Already a crash.

Happens at 18:45 or 06:45 PM.

Thank you @nbaprofo

Hi @sa2000 ,

I’ve got the same error while viewing a tv show from my server itself via web.

Happens at 15:51.

Thank you .

This problem appeards to be difficult to identify. It could be a timing issue.
Have been discussing it with the development team and looking at the debug logging but still no clues as to why it is happening and it is more difficult because it has not been possible to reproduce the error

We are going for the nuclear option and get very detailed transcoder logging as well as server logging and will fill logs quickly so will increase number of log files.

So please lets have another go and would be good if again you give me a file that produces the error and with which client app

  1. Enable both Server Debug and Verbose logging (settings / server / show advanced) and save changes
  2. Temporarily increasing server log files to 20
    Regedit, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server, New, => DWord (32 bit) value,
    Name it LogNumFiles and set a value of decimal 20
  3. Switch to transcoder Log level of trace, change the value for the String Value item named TranscoderLogLevel to trace
  4. Restart the server, reproduce the problem and get the logs and ideally upload the file used to get the error and send me a link to it
  5. Re-instate default logging. Deleting LogNumFiles, TranscoderLogLevel and unsetting server verbose logging

Hi @sa2000 ,

I just changed settings with yours and I can’t do this, no videos are playable now. Each of them is loading forever when Im clicking play.

This problem needs attention… I can barely play any of my movies or tv shows! :confused:

Don’t even know if you have the same issue. The conversion failed transcoder crashed or failed to start is a generic general transcoder failure and could be due to many different reasons

If you care to provide server logs we can see if it is the same or another issue

Thanks - so the trace level logging for the transcoder is too much for the machine

i am not sure if we had verbose server logging before - but could we go for 2 sets of evidence

  1. server settings = debug enabled + verbose enabled and transcoder logging level set to debug
  2. server settings = debug enabled + verbose enabled and transcoder logging level set to verbose

with the trace level - nothing actually starts?
