Error navigating to the specific item when updates are available

I have a Sony Brevia and use a Synology NAS. When a new Plex update is available and I try to play my videos in my Plex library I get an error message-“there was an error navigating to the specific item. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again. The NAS is hard wired and the connection is not over the internet or wi-fi. If I then update the server, I still have this error. Sometimes it goes away after a while but I don’t know why. Can anyone please help explain what is going on and how to fix this?

It sounds like the server has not fully started up maybe. Can you access it with other apps like https://app.plex.tv when this happens? Does that TV run our Android app? Can you tell me what version number of our app on your TV?

Thanks for responding. I don’t believe that I have my Synology or Plex server set up to allow remote connections. When I tried the app.plex.tv I got this message (which is different from the message I was getting on the TV). By the way, using the Plex server on my Synology plays my videos just fine, and I am able to stream on line Plex content on my TV without trouble. :


I am at work now and can do no more. When I get home, I’ll try to connect my TV, which I believe runs the Android app. I also updated the Synology last night and may need to restart it. I’ll see if restarting helped. If it did not, should I set the Synology or Plex server to work with remote connections?

I have Plex on my Synology, which is where all my videos are. If I log on to my Synology and go to Plex, my videos play fine.

The TV says it is version 9.3.0.32977. When I got home I logged into my Synology. I t said that my Plex server was running. When I opened the Plex app on the TV every thing was working. This seems to happen every time a new Plex version comes out. It happens even before I update Plex. Is it just that I need to do an update and wait long enough, update and restart my Synology, or update, restart and wait long enough?

I would say in general when updates come out it might be a good idea wait to do it at night before bed then in the morning see if you have issue. Often when an update happens it needs to run database cleanups which can take a while. I’m not saying that is definitely the cause but it could slow down the servers response time.

Thanks. I‘ll try that. What I can’t understand is that the Plex does not work even before I do the server update. Unless the TV Plex app updates before I update the Plex server and it won’t work with the TV app.
