Will not play files

Just reinstalled the latest version of the app on my 4k sony and updated the plex on my win pc and restarted my NAS. For the last 6 days it will not play anything. I did all that after it stopped playing files. All it says is check your connection. All other streaming apps work just fine and the video app will play anything on my nas. What’s up with Plex? I am seriously considering going back to my Kodi box. Any suggestions?

See screenshot as the word server is not in the menu. I spent 10 min. clicking every thing and reading down the choices in each and finally found the logs in (of course) troubleshooting.ScreenShot-047

As I wrote in the original post, the server was visible and I could play anything through the video app that came on the Sony. Plex was the issue not the server. I will attempt to follow your guide. and will get back after my attempt.

Did all the steps and now the TV says I have no int connection. Not true no problem with Youtube or AMZN or the video apps on the tv. all work fine. No where to do anything except click retry which does absolutely nothing.

Just finished D/L the file and installed it manually. So I assume I should go to my TV and check if it now works again. I am not a computer expert and sometimes I think people giving answers forget that most of us are computer illiterate about servers and setting things like a server up to run. Every time plex updates is my system going to stop working? If so, this will be my last version since that should be up to the user to upgrade or not. I very much appreciate the help, but try to remember we are not computer experts and that is why we come to these forums for help from people who know way more than we do. I am just an old truck driver who is self taught from people like you who take the time to help those who don’t have the skill or knowledge to do many things on a PC without said help. Thanks in advance. I will get back when I get time to check everything.

Just checked and plex sees all the folders and individual files (even ones I added yesterday 9-27) but says they are not accessible to be played. I am restarting the server to see if that helps. After updating the synology NAS now neither (the video app that comes installed on the SONY TV or Plex) will play the files but they are all clearly visible and I can select individual files but just can’t play them.

Completed all and now the Plex app disappeared from the TV. I have tried 3 times to get it back and when I enter the 4 digit code and go back it has a new 4 digit code on the tv when I try to do anything. The TV is not in the room with the PC and when I get back and do what it says on the TV screen it results in a new 4 digit code. Just keeps going around in circles.

Hope this helps to understand. I have added a new TV show each of the last two days and they are visible and can be selected by the remote while in the plex app, but they will not play. S


See screenshot error message. Pretty sure the file exists and the drive is there, but just can’t play the file. If it is not accessible then how is the new file that I added each day visible in the app??? I will wait for a reply b4 doing all that you suggested.

I used the claim ticket and after the reinstall this is the result.! It still won’t play files. I asked plex to update the library and this was the result. See screenshots. WTF???

As you can see the files are named correctly that were playing just fine until the update and I do not have AVI or MP4 files on the server. So I guess my only choice will be to swing all the files on my server back to external drives and then uninstall the Synology server software and start over from scratch. There is something wrong with a system that when an upgrade is issued the software that was already running stops working.plex files

Well I guess I’m done using plex after 2 years. I’m not about to rename over 6,000 files since they played just fine until this crap started with the update. I’ll just put them on external drives and point Kodi to them like I did b4 I tried using plex. Thanks for the vain attempt to solve the issue. It should not have been necessary in the first place.
