Error on conversion: "Converted files cannot be written to the server's disk" - Windows Server

Server Version#: 1.22.2.4282

One of my three Version Optimization entries (but not the other two) has started failing with “Converted files cannot be written to the server’s disk” error.

Looking in forums I find reports of this on Unix servers resolved by changes to permissions, but I am running a windows server, and have set my c:\Plex-Transcode to Full Control for Everyone, and still no luck so far.

Anyone got a suggestion?

what about permissions for the path where the media is - Is there Full permissions for the media directories ?

and is there a limit set ?

Creating Optimized Versions | Plex Support

Nope, permissions are wide open.

So from the logs, I think I may have found something:

Apr 20, 2021 12:20:44.214 [13172] ERROR - IsFileWritable: failed to create file ‘“X:\Plex\Plex-TV Shows\TV In Progress\Earth Moods\Plex Versions\Optimized for TV\Earth Moods \9cfd9394-e2b8-4d17-964a-740b81bc2461”’

Note the extra space after the word Moods - this should not be there, I have no idea why it is adding one, and I am pretty sure this is the error - it’s looking for a folder that doesn’t exist.

I have seen this before. Do you have a space in the title at the end of the file or the file itself that is being optimized

Could you get me full logs zip and media info xml for the media file that is being optimized - see Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support

I am back next Tuesday - will pick up then if not picked up by anyone else

Absolutely, thank you very much.

You are correct, there are no extra spaces in the actual file or folder name.

Thanks - It is not reproducible for me. Well, you did say it is happening for one but not other optimized versions

How was the parent directory created ? Manually or some script? Was it copied from another filesystem ?
This directory:
X:\Plex\Plex-TV Shows\TV In Progress\Earth Moods

I am wondering if there is some non printable character at the end - which gets stripped for the actual path for the media file but does not get stripped when we add the “Plex Versions” path

By the way you have debug logging disabled - which means logs only show INFO/WARN/ERROR log lines

Are you able to get it to happen on a new show ?

The path was created with FileBot, but I did try manually renaming the folder to be sure and I do not believe there is an invisible character. It does happen to other shows - in fact it happens to ALL shows that are covered by that optimization entry.

I am not home until this evening but I will update with a new set of logs with debug turned on this evening or tomorrow morn my time. (US Eastern)

Many thanks for looking into this. I don’t know why it started failing all of a sudden.
