"Error opening input" IOS remote play outside network

For some reason i can not remotely play on my IOS iphone app. I can play on app with my android phone. And when on wifi in my home network both phones work. I tried to erase and reinstall ios app. I rebooted plex, i force installed plex server running on unraid. Thanks for any help.

Same here on my iPad. IOS new version of plex seems doomed

same issue here. I use Zerotier to access my network and when it is active on my iOS device it won’t work over Cellular. I have a plex pass too.

Same here - any remote play now fails with this error, experienced on iPad, iPhone, Samsung TV and XBox. Remote browsing working fine (so not a network issue), but whenever playing is attempted just get the spinning ‘wait’ icon, then shortly after ‘Error opening input’. No issues playing from the local network but remote play is clearly broken. Plex having their Ratners/SonoS moment?

Has anyone been able to figure out why the “error opening input” is showing up with playing on iOS iphone when outside the network? I have posted this and still no solution. Still happening and my family and friends can assess my network from there deferent homes or location outside my net work so not a network issue for my server i believe.

Same here. Reverse proxy is set up with valid certificates. Playing via web browser over VPN works fine but the iOS app doesn’t work.

Bump. This issue is still happening. Seriously I wish I could downgrade to the old iPad app

Having a similar problem. I use an app for content filtering on my kids devices called Canopy. It uses a combination of MDM and VPN to filter websites. Plex app will load and display available content, but actual streaming in the app doesn’t work. Streaming from web browser works
 so why not the app?

Same error: " Error opening input" on iPhone 13 IOS 18.5. Streaming of plex channels works but i can’t remotely play movies of my nas from external networks.
However, on iPhone 16e works everything properly.
Both phones have same configuration.
I’ve deleted cache, reinstall app, prooft in several wifis and sims. this happened a coupled of months ago and no idea how to fix it. Anyone?

I have just had this issue on iPad. Fixed by removing external subtitle files, I assume Plex was having a fit trying to burn them for iOS

+1 for the wife experiencing the same error message. Logs directly from her iPhone indicate the following, which is maybe related?
