Error opening input whenever I try to open a file on my Plex Media Server remotely

I am having issues to watch my media files when I am not connected to the same wifi network as the server on my iPhone (for example, when using 4G/5G to watch files)
When I am trying to access any file, the screen remains black, until « Error opening input » is displayed on the phone.
I am aware that the remote access conditions have evolved recently, but as a lifetime Plex Pass owner since last year, I was supposed to keep access to the remote playing functionality. Has anyone been able to solve that kind of issue recently ? I tried to reinstall the server from scratch, same for the app, but the problem seems to persist.. I need help :sweat_smile:

Remote access issues have shown up with PMS version 1.41.8.9834. It’s a know issue. Some users are having success on downgrading to 1.41.7.9823. I’m currently using 1.41.3.9314 and not having any major issues. There is an archive of past plexmediaserver download urls on Github. Find the version you need and the link will download the version from the plex download server.

I would uninstall the current PMS version:

$sudo dpkg --remove ".deb file name of current version"

And then install the downgrade version:

$sudo dpkg --install ".deb file name of downgrade version"

If you want to pause any updates to PMS until the issues are resolved:

sudo apt-mark hold plexmediaserver

To resume updates change “hold” to “unhold”

Are you using a Synology device using DSM7.2.2+ for your server by chance?Or did you ever find a workaround?

I’m sort of stuck as I’m using the above device & can’t find any previous PMS versions (post 1.41.2). Seem only DSM7 (no DSM72) are in the archived links above as well, unless I’m missing something.

I have ben looking at the parameters of the app on my phone and tried changing a parameter (sorry for the translation, my Plex interface is in French)
Parameters>Video & Audio>Mobile quality
The original setting was to some maximum quality (like 720p) while streaming on mobile network, and was different for wifi. I set it to the Maximum option for both et voilà : I was able to stream again on my phone on 4G/5G :partying_face:

I don’t run Synology, but another user said that DSM7.2.2 keeps copies of past PMS installs. If you go through and uninstall (keep all Libraries and Databases for future install) and then an install, it should give you the option to install a past version.
