Plex Media Server Logs_2018-12-01_11-45-14.zip (2.7 MB)

Reinstalled my PC couple of times and been trying to fix this problem. Somehow the problem keeps popping up.

Problem:

  1. Plex is unable to perform any conversion - says that the error is " The Transcoder was unable to process this media "
  2. This is on a fresh installed PC with the latest Windows update to date.
  3. After freshly install, the sync and the conversion were working fine - However after the next reboot, the transcoder just won’t perform any process.
  4. I tried uninstalled/reinstall PMS. It work few times and suddenly refuse to work- hence the re-installation of Windows OS.

Setup wise -

  1. Windows 10 Pro | 1803 | OS build : 17134.441
  2. Apps installed, Nvidia 416.16 Drivers , PMS, Office
  3. NAS mounted (SMB) for Plex Videos

Can anyone please help? Please advise if need more information.

HI, Appreciate any help from Plex Folks… thanks!

There appears to be a problem with hardware transcoding
The hardware codecs used were

Dec 01, 2018 10:57:32.918 [14616] DEBUG - TPU: hardware transcoding: final decoder: dxva2, final encoder: nvenc

Could you see if there are any updates available.
And also try with hardware acceleration disabled
See server settings for Transcoder

Hi @sa2000 , thanks!

I have been monitoring if there are any changes to the app and file system change to see if there is problem to it. Quick question - based on the error above, does port conflict will also cause problem? My shared folder over NAS uses a special app (Asustor EZconnect) which i found out that if i install and setup the app, plex will exhibit the above error.

There appears to be an issue with DirectX specifically with the dxva2 decoder, This has now been seen elsewhere as well in other logs.

May be some update caused the problem

When you mention elsewhere - do u mean in my logs? Or in other folks setup?

I thought DirectX is already included as part of the updates. Should i reinstall directX?

Thanks!

It is already in your logs. It was seen in recent logs internally - suggesting may be some DirectX change

Yes you could try that. See what recent updates got applied

@justin.yeap

I have a build available from development to try out for this problem. The issue being for sync and optimization transcoding, any failure with hardware transcoding resulted in the action failing rather than falling back to software transcoding.

I will send you a link for the download by Private Message and would like you to repeat the actions that failed before and let me know the outcome and may be get logs anyway, say 20 minutes after starting the transcode - would have failed before that before

Thanks

A couple of bugs that affected Sync and Conversion for Optimization transcodes when hardware transcoding fails have now been fixed and the fix available as from Plex Media Server 1.15.7.1079

Release Note: Plex Media Server

  • Sync or Optimize could fail to fallback to software transcoding if hardware transcoding failed (#9455)
