My Plex Transcoder.exe crashes whenever Plex tries to transcode something. I’ve already scoured the forums (and the Plex subreddit) for a solution but to no avail.
Please let me know what questions you have and if logs are needed. Below is some info to get started. Thanks.
Running PMS on a dedicated Intel NUC.
OS: Windows 7
CPU: Core i5-5250U
RAM: 8GB
The media files are stored on a Synology NAS on the same network.
Server Version#: 1.16.1.1291
Player Version#: Any (Web, Roku, PS4, Android)
Just following up because this issue is still happening.
In the logs I submitted, the transcoder.exe crashed when I tried to play The Prince of Egypt (1998). The movie is in HEVC H265 video format. Plex tries to transcode the video and the crash error immediately pops up on the Plex server computer.
There have been a few updates to Plex since my original post so here’s my current version.
Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402
Player Version#: Any (Web, Roku, PS4, Android)
Is hw transcoding checked or not? Did this happen w/ earlier versions of PMS? OR did this just start w/ the current version (and possibly after some Win 7 update)?
I’ve been getting the same error on Win10 with an Intel NUC as well. I don’t remember updating anything on the driver end, but I’ve had hardware decoding enabled for at least a year. (I forgot to enable it when I built it).
I’m not really sure. I only became aware that there was a problem around the time of creating this thread. A friend was trying to stream some of my media and said it wouldn’t load a video. I checked Tautulli history which logged that Plex was trying to transcode the video being served up so I thought hmm, I should test out some transcoded playback… I tried Prince of Egypt and investigated the issue a bit… then came and created this thread since I couldn’t find any solutions online.
