Are there any supported antenna/tuner combos that connect to the network either by Ethernet or Wi-Fi rather than directly to the server? I want to put the antenna in the attic, but my server is on the first floor. I don’t have coax running through the house. Tablo seems to offer a stand alone solution, but I would prefer to manage all of the devices in Plex.
SiliconDust’s HDHomeRun tuners can be connected anywhere on your network by Ethernet and, in my opinion, work very well.
You can find a full list of tuners supported by Plex Live TV & DVR here:
If I can ask a clarifying question, does this mean that as long as the tuner is connected to a network access point It doesn’t need to be directly connected to the computer running Plex server?
I tried one of the recommended loop antennas and it’s only getting a handful of channels. Now I’m thinking I could get a more robust outdoor antenna and just make sure there that it’s mounted somewhere I can reasonably setup the tuner and an access point from my eero mesh.
Correct, it does not need to be connected to the computer running PMS. I only needs to be on the same LAN as the PMS server so that they are able to communicate.
Would you happen to also know if systems like eero mesh setups allow for an old router to to be added as an access point that doesn’t extend/amplify network? I have an Asus ac1900 that would be a lot cheaper than adding another eero router to the mix.
