Every video files are always transcoding

Server Version#: Synology DS218: 1.13.6.283-9e747cb50
Player Version#: Plex for LG: 3.72.0/iOS (iPhone X): 5.5

Hi,

I’m not being able to play 4K video files because Plex is always transcoding it.
But I’m 100% sure that I’ve already played those same 4K video files before, with this PMS version.

I’m using Plex 1.13.6.283-9e747cb50 on Synology DS218 and trying to reproduce 4K videos files recorded on iPhone X or GoPro.

Can someone help me?
Thanks!

the classic obstacle with 4K videos is the client’s support for that exact combination of container (e.g. mkv, mp4, mov…) and audio/video/subtitle stream codecs (e.g. h264 or h265 video / AC3, DTS, aac audio / SRT, VOBSUP, PGS subtitles).

If there’s been no change to the video – did you e.g. update the player since then?

I’ve checked that. And, as I said, I was able to play these files before.

Indeed there was a recent update on both Plex for iOS and Plex for LG, but it is strange that it’s not working anymore on both devices.

Well, it seems it’s not only 4K content.
As you can see in the screenshot below, Plex is transcoding everything. Including h264 1080p video.

Why?

Try to disable the subs. You should find the reason of the transcoding. In my situation was the PGS subtitles. I put external file and I solve the problem.

I have no subtitles. So that’s not the problem.
